Gillespie Construction LLC was formed around the concept of putting forth high quality work using the best products in the industry and treating all projects as if it were thier own home. I offer reasonable pricing along with many styles and colors to fit any home owners palette. I work as a sub-contractor at times and will also sub-contract when needed.

"We hired James to demo our builder's grade shower, bathroom cabinets, and flooring and install new tiled standup shower with doors and tiled floor in our master bath. The custom made cabinets and marble countertop with sinks were installed by others. James was always on time and performed the majority of work himself. Unfortunately, the project ran more than one month over schedule with sub-par work. Specifically: * Didn't turn off water prior to cutting through shower drywall, nicking a water pipe, and causing water damage to our basement fceiling, flooring, and couch * Glass shower door installed incorrectly, causing water to seep outside of shower door agter completion * Glass shower door secured to sill with clear silicone, not screws, which loosened within a few months * Tile on shower floor replaced twice due to insufficient grading during installation * Silicone applied around all inside corners of shower wasn't smooth. In addition to being unattractive, it became a trap for mold despite weekly scrubbing A year after installation, I sent photos of the completed shower to another contractor to fix the silicone and shower door. Here is his reply, verbatum: "After looking at the pictures I think you need more than caulk replacement. Thats caulk job is really really bad and unfortunately its silicone on most of it. The tile job is below average and we won't caulk over that and guarantee are work or the fact that anything won't be damaged during removal of existing caulking. Sorry we can't help with the caulk but if you decide to replace the tile we can talk." We eventually found a contractor to remove the silicone in the shower and replace it with caulk. The shower door had to be completely removed and installed/secured according to manufacturer's instructions. I would never, ever hire him again to do work in our home."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can over dehumidify your house. While you may prefer a dryer climate inside, the elimination of too much moisture in the air can lead to an extremely dry environment that can affect those with respiratory and skin issues. Strike a balance between eliminating excess moisture without making your home feel like a desert. Most modern thermostats show the humidity levels for guidance.

Sandbags are the most common and efficient way to create a flood barrier at home. Some local authorities pass them around to homes before the risk of a flood. Otherwise, you can use flood-proof house materials, like burlap or woven plastic bags, to make sandbags and fill them with sand or cat litter. Make sure that when you stack them, they’re tightly laid on top of each other, creating the effect of a firm wall against accumulating water.

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

The cost of basement waterproofing is $4,950 for the average homeowner. However, you could end up paying between $600 and $14,000, depending on factors like basement size, waterproofing method, and the region you live in.

If you live in an area with heavy rainfall, you might be paying more for waterproofing than if you lived somewhere drier since waterproofing contractors would be in high demand. Likewise, a 500-foot basement costs between $2,500 and $5,000 to waterproof, but that price rises significantly for a larger basement.

Periodic inspections and addressing drainage issues prevent further damage.
