"Adam was very professional. We did a walk through before starting the job and after work was finished. He addressed everything that we discussed that needed to be done. My porch looks so much better. I would recommend Old Time Masonry to a friend."

"Chris, the owner, came out to our house to provide an estimate for a paver patio. We had previously worked with another company to get a drawing and estimate. We really liked the sketch but could not afford it. Chris was able to scale down the size to a more reasonable size and get everything we wanted within our price range. We were very pleased with the estimate and thought the price was very fair and competitive.
We decided to move forward with Yanton's and selected our paver type and color. Chris came out to the house to help us select the pavers and colors and even marked the yard to give us a better idea of the size of the patio. The process was seamless and we felt very comfortable about working with him. There were some delays in the project dates due to weather but that was beyond their control. The entire installation process from start to finish took about 4-5 days. Given the inclement weather for part of these days, the time frame was reasonable.
I had questions about the patio, almost daily, to which Chris was very responsive. He even met us at our home a few mornings before we headed off to work to confirm some details. We appreciated his availability for calls, responses to emails, and flexibility to stop by the house to meet us on our schedule.
The patio looks great and there was minimal damage to our lawn during installation. They laid sod around the patio area for the parts that needed to be leveled to the existing lawn and the sod looks great. We were very pleased with the finished product!
We look forward to using Yanton's again in the future for a few other projects!"

"It was great. Josh Betts returned my call first thing the next morning, and he was at the property quickly (and on a Sunday). Josh was right on time for the walk-through with our contractor. We had the repair plans the following afternoon. Josh is clearly very knowledgeable. I would recommend Betts Structural with absolutely no hesitation."

"Greg and his crew were back at my house. They repaired a retaining wall to our basement. I don't know how he does it for the price. It looks like a million dollars. Greg is an artist with masonry work. To top it all off, he is so personable. I would recommend this company without any hesitation. I will be using him again!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

You can use normal bricks as cladding for a concrete or clay pizza oven or as a base underneath one. Fire bricks or solid clay bricks are necessary for an outdoor pizza oven’s floor, and you can use clay bricks for the rest of the oven.

A fireplace is, by definition, an enclosed space where you burn wood or other fuel for the purpose of generating light and heat. A firepit burns wood and is much less expensive to build, but they aren’t technically a fireplace as it isn’t enclosed. An outdoor oven—commonly outdoor brick pizza ovens—often uses wood as fuel, but its primary purpose is to cook food, and you’d rarely just burn wood inside them for warmth or aesthetic reasons.

Masonry work tends to be more expensive because the materials can be costly, such as natural stone and brick. Masonry is also very labor intensive, typically making up 50% or more of the final project cost. In addition, quality masonry work requires years of training and experience, as with any skilled trade.

Mortar, or masonry mortar, is mainly used in joints and as parging for stone, brick, or cement construction. Stucco is primarily a surface material used as wall coverings. For maintenance, masonry will need repointing or replacing as damage or land shifting occurs, whereas stucco will need patching or refinishing as it tends to crack over time along with other types of wear-and-tear.

The best tool for drilling into brick or mortar is a rotary hammer drill which is a large hammer drill with low rotation speed and high torque. Regular drills with a hammer function are also excellent tools for drilling into brick when the diameter of the hole is 1/2 inch or less. It might be possible to drill into brick with a standard drill if you’re only drilling a very small hole, but note that masonry work will put a lot of wear on a standard drill, and the tool may not be strong enough to get through brick.
