I was a little bit leery initially because his estimate was $4,000 less than the next highest estimate but he works out of his home and has very little overhead. I drove around and saw 3 samples of his work and finally decided to follow my gut and hire Ron to do the job. He was very pleasant to talk with and very accommodating to any requests I had. He also made suggestions along the way and was more than willing to adjust things as the job progressed. He also hung 2 new lights and a mailbox
- Sophisticated ShadesWe are very pleased with the installation. Dave was prompt and worked carefully to make sure that there was no damage to the recently painted window frames. Despite inclement weather, he did not track in any snow. Because of the way the blinds were to be installed in our home, the tolerances on some of the mountings needed to be tighter than normally provided by the factory. Dave re-ordered the necessary parts, cut the pieces on site to fit, and made other installation adjustments unique to our home when he came back to complete the installation. The color of four of the blinds did not match the window trim color well as we thought that it would. The material used for the blinds had a slightly different color on each of the two sides. Dave suggested turning the blind material so that the side with the better match would be visible. Because Dave had previously worked in the manufacture of blinds he knew that this could be done, and was able to change the blinds. Dave is very particular about the appearance of the blinds Sophisticated Shades sells and installs. He notices small things that make a difference in the final appearance of the blinds, freely shares his experience to suggest improvements, and makes the adjustments needed until both he and the customer are satisfied with the installation. Although the blinds were more expensive than what is available at the big box store, the quality of the blinds, the quality of the installation, and Dave's knowledge of the product made the price appropriate

It took about 3-4 weeks to get the shades, and then they came out and installed them. Everything fit perfectly. Since this is the first time I bought window treatments I gave them a "B" on price because I really don't have a good idea of price range. "I placed an order for 3 tops down bottoms up cordless pleated blackout shades, to replace similar light filtering shades from another company. The shades were reasonably priced, arrived on time and fit correctly. However I'm unimpressed with their overall quality. Three things bother me about the blinds:
1) they are extremely noisy when being raised or lowered
2) they need to be adjusted for level every time they are raised or lowered
3) inside the upper housing, there is a string that appears to move as the blinds are raised or lowered. Since the string rubs against parts in the housing, it is likely it will eventually break.
I don't think I'd buy these again.
