"Jeff and his team recently completed an extensive kitchen remodel for us that included: removal of walls, widening doorways, removal of popcorn ceiling, patching and refinishing of hardwood floor, addition of and relocation of lighting, removal of soffits including pluming relocation, installations of all new cabinets, installation of 2 stage crown moldings, installation of under cabinet lighting, and installation of backsplash. I’m sure there are other small things but that is a fairly comprehensive list. We couldn’t be happier with the results. Jeff and his team delivered a level of craftsmanship and professionalism that truly exceeded our expectation. When we were interviewing contractors, Jeff was the only one that was able to meet our budget. Because he doesn’t sell all of his own materials like some of the other “kitchen design studios” it allowed us the freedom to shop around and find materials that we were not only satisfied with, but also met our budget. I highly recommend him and will likely call again in the future when it’s time to refinish our master bath."

"There is so many amazing things to say about Tristate Contractors! We had a very large renovation we were interested in doing, but didn't quite know how it would work with our current structure. We had a design and architect team that recommended Tristate Contractors and it was the best choice we could have made. Our entire first floor was renovated from top to bottom, including a complete kitchen demo, tearing walls down, new flooring, installing cabinetry, installing fireplace stone, insulation, drywall, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, trimwork, new doors installation, tilework in the kitchen and powder room, a stairway redo and the list goes on. They were able to set up a makeshift space for us in our basement so we had a kitchen to use while the work was going on AND they even helped with an outdoor drainage problem we had in our yard. They completely transformed our house and we couldn't be happier with the result. Tristate Contractors is a company with trustworthy, reliable, kind, knowledgeable and talented people. We will definitely be calling them again for our future needs!"

"Incredible team! They take great pride in their work. There was an issue that came up to no fault of anyone, and the team was quick to respond to the issue without any additional charge. This company is an honest contractor that I would recommend to anyone in the Dayton area."

"Bryan completed a partial kitchen remodel in our 155-year-old house, and my wife and I are very pleased with the results, and with the entire process. As an architect, I know from experience that it's incredibly difficult to find a contractor who has fair prices, does quality work, communicates clearly, AND works with subcontractors who are equally capable and professional. Thankfully we found that person in Bryan. We would gladly hire him again (in fact, we've already hired him for additional work!) and would absolutely recommend him to others."

Customers say: Quick response

"Service after the sale! When anyone goes into a sizable backyard project, just know not all goes according to plan. There will be hiccups, delays, re-dos, etc. Just be in that mindset, no matter who you use. It's life and it happens! The end result is that I LOVE MY NEW BACKYARD SPACE (as do my neighbors :-) ) With that, I wish to speak about the service after the sale! That is one competitive advantage I give David and his Outdoor Design team! My backyard project was fairly sizable... Deck tear down, new covered/paved patio, a new gas line fed firepit with concrete/stone sitting. My dream backyard! I am into my third season of enjoying my backyard space. I mentioned this because some items needed to corrected after about a year, the contractors we long packed and gone. I contacted David and without question, he said " I will take care of it...), and did so. Making the issue go away and even made it better than it was before. Now fast forward another year! Another unforeseen problem arose. I reached out to David and told him what happened, and I would like to make sure I got the right size and part to replace, that if he would order the part for the firepit I would pay him for it and replace it myself (given it has been over two years). He said, "That should not have happened...I will order and replace it, and will have it installed at no cost." He promptly did so that we didn't miss any long-term enjoyment outside. THAT IS SERVICE no one will match! It is the small things that add up and over-shadow minor inconveniences that happened during the design/building of the project. I would recommend David and his team to anyone! He has your back long after the sale and completion of your project!"

Small jobs welcome

"There is only one way to get to the deck we had replaced and that is through the house so it was important our contractor and workers were professional. Yury and his team were exceptionally easy to work with--not only skilled and dedicated to quality, but also polite, pleasant, punctual, and diligent. We could not ask for more and will call LTB again when we have another project."

"Tim (owner) was great to work with—professional, responsive, and very kind throughout the entire process. Jeff, the handyman who handled our plumbing, electrical, and general contractor work, was also fantastic. He was knowledgeable, easy to work with, and did excellent work. We’re very happy with the service and will definitely use them again in the future. Pricing was fair and much lower than other quotes. Highly recommend!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

Removing a load-bearing wall affects the structural integrity of your home, so you’ll need a permit before starting the work. Building codes vary by municipality, and obtaining a permit and having the work inspected after completion will ensure you’re in compliance with all applicable regulations.

Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.
