Small jobs welcome

"Requested Help on Saturday 9:15Am, received a phone call at 10:am. He said that he would come by this Saturday (today) at 10:30am. Mr. Johnson arrived on time. We showed him two bathrooms needed to be done asap. He started that right away. After he finished that job. Then, we added several more projects with the same stipulation that they had to be done right away. He completed all of our jobs in quick order. All plastering, painting 3 bathrooms, repairing porch railing & installation of 5 posts as well as painting the porch rails & floor. He & his team completed the jobs in three days. He went over and above on meeting our expectations and our deadline. He has a very positive attitude and is very timely. We strongly recommend. We will use him in the future when we have a need. Well pleased - Mr. & Mrs Johnny R"

"Robert came out to review the damage. He was very professional and explained what they would do. The family room ceiling was about 3 feet by one foot area. The work was impressive. When they finished and it dried, you really need to know where to look to see the repair."

"Mr. Moyer is truly a professional and did such a great job repairing the damage.    During the process, I had one area that required drywall over an area that was to cover the pipes coming from the upstairs sink.    He noticed a drop of water on the drywall and I had to have plumber come out to repair the water leak under the sink.    It was such a subtle leak, but definitely needed repair prior to completing the job which could have caused more damage down the road if not detected.    He did an excellent clean up job as well once he completed the work."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

It depends on the construction of your wall. Most handypeople can fix small holes in drywall. If your wall is plaster or brick, more significant damage may require a drywall contractor or a mason. Hiring a handyperson costs less than a more specialized type of contractor, but they’re not trained in all types of wall repairs.

Plaster can be a difficult DIY to master, especially if you plan to plaster an entire room, rather than patch a small area. Before you begin a plaster DIY project, you need to know which tools and type of plaster to use. It's also important to know how to prepare the surface and apply the plaster for a smooth finish. If that all sounds like a lot of work, you may prefer hiring a local plaster repair contractor to do the job.

All plaster walls will crack over time due to normal house settling and expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes. Small, thin hairline cracks are generally not serious and are mostly a cosmetic issue. However, larger or more significant cracks can indicate structural problems.

Here's how to tell the difference:

  • Cosmetic Cracks: Cracks that are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner are typically cosmetic.

  • Structural Cracks: Cracks wider than 0.5 cm, excessive or deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, or cracks that span around corners can signify a structural or foundation issue. Cracks along the joints where walls meet the ceiling also warrant attention.

For cracks wider than 0.5 cm, structural repair is needed. If a crack is 2.5 cm (1 inch) or wider, or if you notice any signs of a structural problem, it is best to contact a plaster repair professional to assess the damage.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

To maintain plaster walls, inspect them regularly for cracks and seal them early. Clean the walls by dusting regularly or using a gentle, damp cloth. It's also important to avoid moisture exposure. Repainting as needed will help maintain the wall's appearance and longevity.
