"The window was fine when it was installed. The problem arose when I tried to use the warranty. They said I bought it from the Ohio location, which is now closed and only functions as an alignment location. However, since it's a Thermal Guard warranty, it should be covered."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

Awnings offer a variety of materials to choose from, each of which has its own benefits. Cotton is a lower-cost option that’s also more eco-friendly because it’s made from natural materials, while acrylic-coated polyester and vinyl offer better durability against harsh weather. Fiberglass and metal are also resilient to weather, although metal can be vulnerable to corrosion without protective sealant. Ultimately, you’ll need to consider your climate and your budget in deciding the best material for your awning.

Awnings are either fixed or retractable and can be paired with a variety of cover materials. Fixed awnings are a permanent outdoor feature of a building. These are highly durable and require ongoing maintenance. Once installed, the position of this awning cannot be changed.

Retractable awnings are more popular than fixed awnings since the cover can open and close. This allows homeowners to open and close the awning, depending on the weather. When not in use, it can be closed to allow for extra space.

Awnings last five to 15 years on average. Vinyl awnings offer a long lifespan, but other fabric types can also last a long time if you regularly clean them and repair them as needed. To extend their lifespan, you should clean your awnings at least twice per year.

An awning can last anywhere from five to 15 years and even longer sometimes. The life span of an awning depends on several factors, from its construction materials to the design and who installed it. Regular maintenance is also important here. Weather conditions also impact the life span of an awning. Choose high-quality materials and stay on top of maintenance tasks to extend longevity.

Regular cleaning, inspecting for wear, and retracting during storms extend its lifespan.
