"Outstanding, timely, affordable, friendly, honest!! These words describe our experience working with Hughes Contractors. Our project included a new disability sidewalk from our back porch to the workshop. Besides the excellent work, Mr. Hughes provided helpful and attractive ideas. "This was no small job as it was related to 17 years of wear and tear on the home and it was not a typical home as the drywall folks were working with 28 foot ceilings. On a job of this size and nature you expect some complications along they way and of course there was but I can honestly state no matter what developed it was taken care of with professionalism and the thought process of the customer is right so lets fix what the customer is asking. Because there were some many different items needing repaired it required different crews to be involved and each and every crew was professional, caring and most important cared about the work they performed in the end which showed.. I own 3 business and know what it takes to work with the public and do what it takes to achieve 100% customer satisfaction. Jason Friedman Improvements seems to have a science in place to assure that happens on a daily basis. I would recommend this firm for a large job such as ours was or even a small one if that is what you are looking for."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The regulations for pool fence heights vary by state, so be sure to research what the legal, minimum height is in your area before purchasing or installing a fence. Though every region is different, generally a pool fence must be at least 4 and ½ feet high. If you’re unsure whether you need a fence around your pool, and how high that fence should be, contact a local pool enclosure expert to help you successfully, and safely, move forward.

When deciding to replace or repair your existing fence, consider the 20% rule that fence builders reference. This rule states that if more than 20% of your fence needs repair, you should skip the repair and replace it. Additionally, if your fence is nearing the end of its life, it's often best to replace it.

Repairing the fence is a good option when you have minimal damage or damage from a specific event versus wear and tear. Your fence repair professional can assess the damage and compare the repair price with the cost of a new fence.

Most privacy fences are easy to install if you’re going with a DIY-friendly option like a wood fence, vinyl fence, or pallet fence. Since pallet fences come in the form of pre-constructed fence panels, they’re often considered the easiest privacy fence to install. Just get your fence stakes in the ground and slide the pallets onto them before securing them with scrapboard.

You can reuse chain link fences as long as they’re in good condition. The best part—reusing it helps you make the most of the cost of a chain link fence. Whether you want to reuse it or consider asking someone to remove it for you in exchange for a free fence, it’s possible. If you can’t find a location for it in your yard, you can repurpose a chain link fence by donating it to a local animal shelter or community garden.

Lattice should not touch the ground, as it creates a possibility for rot and a termite infestation. It’s best to leave a gap of 3 or 4 inches at the bottom for airflow and to keep the wood dry. You can add stones, bricks, or other decorative pieces to conceal the bottom of the lattice if desired.
