"I am very happy with the new roof. Daryl, the sales rep, communicated everything very nicely and made sure that I was given the best option for my roof. Mike, Devan, and Walter were the project managers and they were very helpful throughout the roof install. "Adrian was fast and thorough from the beginning - from the quote, to scheduling and installation. We had to wait for better weather to add the gutters after installing the metal roof, but it was no problem. Can't control the weather. Price was right, installation team (s) - tear off, install, finish work and gutters, were all great. They were respectful, kept the site clean and kept their trucks and gear out of the way of neighboring businesses, which was important."

Mansard roofs provide more attic space or living space on the interior than many other styles, and they offer a classic appearance and old-world charm to any home. They also often have multiple windows on the lower hip, providing ample natural light and ventilation. 

On the other hand, they’re more expensive to install and replace due to their complexity and rarity, and the low slope of the upper hip means that heavy snowfall can be an issue. Additionally, they’re more prone to leaking than many other roof styles.

Homeowners insurance typically covers roof repairs or replacement if the damage is caused by a sudden, accidental event or a covered peril, such as a storm, wind, hail, fire, or a falling tree. However, insurance will not cover repairs or replacement for issues stemming from a lack of maintenance, normal wear and tear, or a roof that is simply old and at the end of its lifespan. If a leak or damage occurs due to neglect, you will likely have to pay for repairs out of pocket.

The most common defect in a flat roof is leaking. Flat roofs have minimal slope, so water pools more readily on a flat roof than on a sloped roof, and the risk of the waterproof membrane failing increases with exposure. Tears and punctures from foot traffic and blown debris are other common problems, especially with single-ply roofing membranes like TPO and EPDM roofs.

While you technically can add a roof over shakes or shingles, it’s not a good idea. Roofing over existing roofing creates a moisture barrier underneath the new roof and since the trapped material is wood, you can expect a moisture problem. While you could get away with installing a new roof over asphalt or steel, wooden roofs should be removed, new underlayment installed, and the new roof installed over that. Also, the extra weight would add strain to your roof structure.
