"The first thing I have to say about Ed Baranek is that he knows his products and his measurements.  I watched him and his team install one of the windows in the master bedroom, and I've never seen such a great fit in old work.  I was dumbstruck impressed.   The aluminum trim was meticulously done and it looks great.  Ed has been  responsive to all of my technical questions with reason and information rather than condescension.  Only time will tell if I'm truly happy with the long term performance of the window, but the short term they seem fine (the difference in exterior noise is huge).   The installation will doubtless be fine for the long haul.
I am leaving punctuality as NA  due to weather delays which were unavoidable.

"As a result of very good service and high quality windows, I recommended Mike Murnane to my father (a retired real estate Broker- Rolls Realty- who is about as frugal as they come); he'd been wanting to do something about his windows for years. His ranch was built in 1964, and he'd been looking for a window that would match perfectly with the honey-colored maple throughout the house. Dad had looked at Pella and Rosati, but hadn't found a good match in keeping with the Colonial style of the home, at a reasonable cost. Mike showed my father some products initially, but after more consideration, pursued something he hadn't originally thought of, and returned with that product. It was a different line, but It was EXACTLY what Dad had been wanting- and after the job was completed, his visiting friends were not aware the windows had been replaced because they matched so perfectly. Dad ended up having exterior work ordered as well- he had gutters and gutter guards installed, and bought new shutters to replace the original wood ones. He was equally impressed with the people who came to install everything (this was a different team). They brought carpet protectors and drop cloths, and cleaned everything, leaving no trace that they'd been there. As a result, my sister and her husband ordered new windows, a new front door, and a rear sliding glass door replacement.
I am a realtor, and have recommended Mike, his associates, and Atlas Roof and Exteriors to other agents, inspectors, neighbors, and friends.
What I like most is the value and the price. Mike knows what types of products are appropriate for the style and price point of homes. What would be appropriate for a house in the $129,900 range is not the same as what clients would expect in a $250,000 home; and of course, a home in the luxury market demands something above and beyond. The bottom line is to get an energy efficient window to add value and beauty to ANY home. I believe Mike works to get you what you want at a price that is affordable. I don't detect any of that smooth talking, bait and switch nonsense with Mike. The people with whom Mike works do what they say they will do.
Many home owners are intimidated by such a big investment. We've noticed a big difference in how our house feels as the weather has changed. It's quieter. The temperature is more uniform throughout the house and we're more comfortable. We're saving money because everything is airtight. I feel confident recommending Mr. Murnane and the company for which he works.

"We contacted Jackson Egress in early November to get a quote. Jonathan quickly provided a written quote via e-mail. We were not ready to act yet, so we waited until December to accept. Jackson Egress called OUPS to mark our yard for utilities, then James came out for a site visit. We found that our gas line encroached on one of the egress wells and would need to be moved. I contacted Columbia Gas to start this process. In the meantime, Jackson Egress started on the other two windows. We found out that Dublin would not approve permits on the rest of our basement remodel without permitted egress windows. Oops...rookie mistake on our part. Not Jackson Egress's fault, our fault. But they halted their work without complaint, covered our egress wells, filed drawings for permits with Dublin on our behalf, and waited for us to complete work with Columbia Gas. Columbia Gas completed their work in early January. And, despite the weather challenges, Jackson Egress resumed shortly thereafter completing the 3 egress windows which passed inspection with no issues. We had some challenges along the way with Dublin requiring permits on the egress windows before approving the rest of the basement. And of course getting Columbia gas to move fast especially around the holidays was fun. Throw in some winter weather for good measure. But, I have no complaints. James and crew were on time or early and worked hard every day they could. Jonathan was responsive with all scheduling and communication. The price was fair. The work and materials are high quality. Nothing more I could ask for as a customer."

"OBA did a great job installing an egress window. Cleaned up job site and everything was explained fully both prior and at the end of job. No surprises! Wish they also did drywall services. Jaylon C and Blake B were polite, efficient, professional and friendly to my two dogs. Would use this company again."

"Windows are good. Work was sloppy. Still finding shards of glass on the floor and the furniture a week after completion. Caulking looks like a third grader did it- including caulking the screen door to the frame. For this type of investment, they should act like professionals."

"I had to speak to at least 5 different people in the prosses and communication between them wasn't always accurate. Their suppliers caused delays, in particular the glass door. First instaler was very good but had to wait a month for the doors. Not happy with door, they seem fragile and hang very loose. Expected much better for $10'000. Don't have a good idea what to expect because each process ie: sales, measuring, 'dispachers , instalers, is a different person and start over with questions."

"Installed an egress window which required cutting through thick poured concrete walls. Great service. Eco Seal provided a thorough, quick, and price competitive quote. They got me on the schedule quickly and the work was performed by polite and respective people that cleaned up after themselves. I would choose them again."

"Mr. Craig was excellent to work with. Our project was to make our condominium home's handicap and wheelchair accessible. Space was not available to go full ADA specifications, and plans construction plans were not available. Mr. Craig worked and us in thinking 'outside the box' of the typical/usual. One of our family members has a progressive weakness disability, and the solution will provide the capability of everything from walk-in to wheelchair with 'class'. Floors are slate tile, shower of cultured marble, fold-down teak seat, standard and hand-held shower heads with ability to alter between the 2, glass doors, coordinated grab bars and more, built-in closet shelves, etc. THANK YOU for making it so that we can remain in our home long term!"

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

Storm door panels are typically made from tempered or laminated glass, and each type has its benefits. Tempered glass goes through a special heating and cooling process, increasing its strength and durability. It’s known for its safety features—when it breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces rather than sharp shards. Laminated glass is made by sandwiching a layer of plastic between two layers of glass. This interlayer holds the glass pieces together even when shattered, preventing them from scattering.

There is no blanket number when it comes to glass thickness for soundproofing. Thicker glass does help reduce noise, but it’s only part of the solution. Most single-pane windows use glass that’s ⅛” to ¼” thick. While increasing the thickness can cut down on sound, the real noise-blocking power comes from stacking layers. Double—and triple-pane windows are far more effective for soundproofing. The combination of mass and separation breaks up sound waves better than thick glass could on its own.

The easiest way for DIYers to smooth the edges of cut glass is to use sandpaper. Wearing protective gloves, gently sand the sharp edges smooth using low-grit sandpaper and working up to high-grit sandpaper. You can also use a multitool with a rotating sandpaper cylinder to make quicker work of the project.

You can clean the oven window the same way you clean the oven walls. Make a paste of baking soda and water and let it sit on the window overnight before wiping it off with a damp cloth. You might find it helpful to rub the baking soda paste in with an old toothbrush.

Prior to the middle part of the 1900s, glass manufacturers used a technique that involved blowing glass into cylinder shapes that were then flattened out to create sheets used for windows and doors. This technique often left behind ripples and inconsistencies in the glass.
