Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.

Driveways last 25 to 50 years, but you’ll notice cracks and possible missing pieces during this time. Regular maintenance, such as filling cracks, reapplying sealer, and ensuring that water does not erode the base material, can help extend the lifespan of your driveway. Gravel driveways should be regraded to fill in uneven areas every year or two, depending on how frequently it is needed.

Unlike drying, which takes between 48 and 72 hours on average, asphalt driveway cure times are different and take much longer. Your asphalt driveway won’t actually cure for around six months to one year. During this time, it’s more likely to get damaged or weakened by heavy machinery, vehicles, and high temperatures. 

There are many options when it comes to driveway materials, including concrete, asphalt, gravel, and pavers. The best type of driveway material depends on your personal preference, location, and budget. Concrete is one of the most durable driveway materials, making it a popular option for homes across the country. However, it does cost more than asphalt upfront. Still, asphalt repair costs can quickly add up, making it a less economical option in the long run.
