Signs your water heater is about to fail include: a unit older than ten years, rust water coming from your faucets, banging and rumbling noises when you call for hot water, and leaks coming from the tank. You might also notice a foul odor when you turn on your hot water, akin to rotten eggs or sulfur. Of course, your water heater might also need replacement if your water doesn’t stay hot or takes longer to heat up.
