"If you’re deciding between contractors, stop what you’re doing and hire TriState Complete Home and Repair. It’s a no brainer. Tim and his team bring level of experience and car far above those that’s we’ve worked with trying to remediate our home that was subjected to a fire. Even before hiring, Tim saved us over $20k by giving simple advise. We’ve so far worked with them to repair our ceiling and attic framing. They continued to save by being create and flexible. More importantly, their quality of work and care speaks for itself. This is the first of many repairs they have lined up for us so stay turned as we will report back. You won’t be disappointed working with Tim and his team."

"I had wind damage that loosened and took a large portion of one side of my house. The insurance company wanted me to recover, clean and reuse what I could . Starlings built a huge nest under the loose siding and consequently created a huge mess all over the side of my house. Jesse Gengler of the A1 Dayton Ohio branch said don't do it. Then the ins co wanted to replace the damaged area with different color and paint it. Then the ins co wanted to replace the damaged side. It wouldn't match the rest of the house in color or type. All these"remedies" the ins co was coming up with would have depreciated my home value. Jesse Gengler knows the law and guided me through the entire process. After fighting for 5 months my house has a full reside. I would not have known my rights if it weren't for Jesse of Alpha one"

"I was so impressed by the honesty of the owner of this company. While I did not need to hire the company, I would highly recommend them due to the fact that they inspected my garage attic and walls and determined that they were sufficiently insulated. Another company provided a quoted without even looking to see if the attic and walls were already insulated."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

When temperatures are too cold, it can keep ice from melting, and products like ice melt and rock salt are ineffective. Water turns to ice in temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice melts on its own when temperatures reach above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ice melt loses effectiveness in temperatures below -25 degrees Fahrenheit, and rock salt works in temperatures 5 degrees Fahrenheit and warmer.

Vapor barriers in attics are a bit outdated and most areas no longer recommend them for attic spaces. For vented attics, the best method is usually to install drywall and cover it with latex paint before attaching insulation fiberglass, cellulose, or foam insulation. When renovating an attic to use as a living space, a contractor can guide you on the best way to cover insulation.

Water heater blanket prices range from $20 to $40 on average, though you typically won’t need to spend more than $30 for all the tools and materials required for installation—which include the blanket itself, heavy-duty scissors, and electrical tape. Blankets with higher R-values will also be slightly higher in price.

If you have access to the foundation walls, adding spray foam insulation to your existing unfinished basement or crawl space is straightforward. Replacing existing insulation in your unfinished attic space is possible after removing the old insulation. However, spray foam insulating an existing wall after the drywall is in place isn’t possible unless you remove most of the drywall.

The best R-value for home insulation depends on where you live and where you’re installing the insulation. Your climate zone plays the biggest role in determining the correct R-value, so be sure to know which zone you live in when determining the R-value you need.
