Small jobs welcome

"Very good work. They didn t dilly-dally around, worked the whole time. They listened to my concerns about my deck & have input as well as adjusted on the fly to some additional work required. They were very reasonable in pricing & professional. If you need your deck fixed, cleaned, stained, etc. hire these guys."

"Eduardo did a fantastic job on my drywall repair. He communicated well, showed up on time and finished within the time he proposed. He was clean, conscience, and considerate. The price was fair and the work was excellent. I was disappointed in the total calculated by home advisor, because they underestimated the work in their calculation. However, before Eduardo even started the job he communicated what would be expected. I shared pictures with him so he could calculate what the job would entail. I appreciated his communication and reliability. I also appreciated that during this covid quarantine he wore a mask at all times. I also appreciated that he setup his work to cause minimal disruption and dust in the household. I would definitely hire him again."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Whether you need a permit depends on the deck design and local regulations. Most areas mandate a building permit if the deck is over a specific height or if it's attached to a pre-existing structure. Shorter, freestanding decks may not require a permit, but you should check with local zoning ordinances and your homeowners association for specifics.

Deck stairs should have at least three stringers rather than two. The recommended minimum width for stairs is 36 inches, and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors recommends at least three cut stringers to provide sufficient support on wood decking stairs of this width. Generally, stringers should be a maximum of 16 inches apart for wood decking and 12 inches apart for more flexible composite decking.

Any wood deck provides some ventilation to the area below, as is the nature of that type of deck design. However, areas that experience excessive humidity and associated moisture benefit greatly from a dedicated ventilation system in the form of strip vents. This addition helps the various wood boards contract and expand evenly throughout the years and reduces the chances of twisting, warping, and buckling.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

Composite decking might cost more upfront, but it delivers value in terms of durability. Unlike wood, composite material resists common deck problems such as rotting, fading, warping, and all the other things you don’t want a deck to do. The extra processes lead to a higher price tag, but you’ll save big in maintenance costs down the road.
