"He cleaned vent from where it enters house from outside and also from where dryer vent enters wall in laundry room. To access from outside he had to climb up ladder to reach since laundry room is on second floor. I could see that he removed a lot of lint. Hard to tell if he removed everything since you obviously cannot see through vent but we could see that dryer vent flaps on outside were showing decent air flow with dryer running. He asserted that the air flow was now good."

Dryer Vent Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The frequency of cleaning your dryer depends on how often you use it. For regular households, it is recommended to clean the lint trap after each load of laundry. Additionally, thorough cleaning of the dryer—lint trap, drum, and exterior—should be done every few months. It's important to pay attention to the vent system as well. Ideally, it should be cleaned at least once a year, or six months if your dryer takes care of huge loads often, or more frequently if you notice reduced drying efficiency.

You can clean a dryer vent yourself by unplugging the dryer from your wall outlet, removing your vent pipe from your dryer, removing debris from the pipe and dryer area, and looking at the exterior vent exit for any debris or blockages.

If you're unfamiliar with how vents work, call in a pro for an annual vent cleaning and inspection and for help with how to clean a dryer vent.

The main factor to a full lint trap is what you are drying. Clothing or textiles made of heavy natural materials, like wool sweaters or cotton towels, generally create more lint than synthetic fibers. If you wash the same type of clothes all the time and suddenly start to notice more lint, that may be a sign that your dryer vent is getting clogged and you need to call in a pro for a professional cleaning.

You should clear your dryer lint trap after every cycle, but a deeper clean is needing only one a year. Failure to clear your lint trap regularly results in lint building up over time, making it harder to clean and more expensive.

Professionals use specialized tools, such as high-powered vacuums and brushes, to clear lint and debris from the vent system, ensuring its safe and efficient operation.
