"I had an estimate done on some electric work, and James Pinson did an excellent job. He was very thorough, clear with his suggestions, and the pricing was very competitive. Based on James's visit and the estimate he provided, I chose Mr. Electric to complete the work."

"I highly recommend Scott Pinto! I hired him to install an EV charger at my house, and the whole experience was outstanding from start to finish. Scott is friendly, knowledgeable, and an excellent communicator. I know very little about electrical wiring, and he took the time to fully explain everything he was doing in a way that actually made sense to me. His estimate was more than fair—quoted lower than many others I’d gotten—and he worked quickly without cutting corners. More importantly, the quality of his work was excellent. He cleaned up after himself completely, and the final install looks clean and professional, exactly as I’d hoped it would. Here’s the best part: he finished in almost half the quoted time, which brought the final cost in more than $250 lower than his initial estimate. We also discussed some additional electrical work I’ve been considering, and I’ll absolutely be hiring Scott to complete it. If you need electrical work done, call Scott. You won’t regret it!"

"I have used Pierce Electric for years for a wide range of jobs, from panel replacements and running wire for new outlets and switches to installing fixtures. He has consistently shown up and completed each project with a high degree of professionalism and craftsmanship. It is rare to find tradesmen who still take pride in their work these days; David is one of them."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

If only half of your outlet works, there are usually two possible causes: faulty wiring or a half-hot outlet. The first thing you'll want to do is check the circuit breaker panel to ensure that it's not tripped. If your circuit breaker isn't tripped, turn off the electricity and inspect the wiring to see if anything has come loose or corroded.

If you have a half-hot outlet, it means half of the outlet is controlled by a switch somewhere on the same circuit, which should be nearby. This is an intentional electrical design commonly found in rooms without overhead lights.

Yes, in some locations, it is required by the National Electric Code (NEC) to have a transfer switch installed for electrical emergencies. In addition to following electrical code, generator transfer switches ensure your home is fully protected during a power outage. By switching the power from the main breaker to the generator breaker, you can seamlessly operate your HVAC, lights, appliances, devices, and more during an emergency.

Yes, states and local governments can have additional building codes that address kitchen outlets. In most cases, these kitchen outlet codes simply refer to the NEC. However, states or local municipalities can have separate requirements for electrician licensing, such as requiring a permit to make big changes, and other details.

No, because amps and volts measure very different things. However, you can use basic equations to find amps or volts by using data about one of the measurements to calculate the other.

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.
