"Mr. Beckett repaired a child’s rocking that was a family heirloom from Germany, made by my wife’s grandfather. A moving company broke it during a move. The chair was repaired, new caning in the seat area, and you could not even detect any of the repair work! Cost was at the given estimate amount. Timing was within estimated time. I will be giving him more heirloom repair work. Absolutely the best!"

"We replaced the antiquated beveled glass front door with one of mahogany. The door and installation were expensive and we had to find a reputable woodworking professional to finish the project. A neighbor who had used Thomas suggested we get in contact with him. Thomas was very professional from the start. He reviewed what needed to get done and the process by which he'd complete it. Since we had never retained a skilled woodworker, we decided to get other quotes. Thomas was the highest of the three, but our level of confidence that he would treat our investment with care and the result we anticipated would be achieved. On the side of his truck is the statement - "Prepare to be amazed" We were! Once Thomas finished the door we were truly amazed at how beautiful it turned out. If you're looking for a true craftsman, Thomas is the one to contact."

Welcome to my profile! I specialize in the design, fabrication and installation of IKEA kitchen cabinetry, giving you a semi custom kitchen for much less! IKEA kitchens are my specialty, and has been for the last two decades, across northern Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia and New Jersey too. It's all I do. IKEA Kitchens are a great value, and you'll keep more money in your pocket than you would with other brands. The quality, fit and finish are very good- I've visited kitchens I've installed 20 years ago and they're still in good condition (my clients know they can reach me anytime after their install should issues arise!). IKEA uses only Blum hardware for door hinges and drawer glides- the best of the best. But IKEA kitchens demand a high degree of precision and has to be installed with this in mind, especially when incorporating wall ovens, micro drawers or other built-in appliances such as Fisher-Paykel, Miehle, etc. Give me a call or send an email about your project! No charge for estimates. Thank you, Erik Gustav Tel:614.483.7110 [email protected] www.ikeatech.com

"Erik was hired to install IKEA cabinets in our home for a full kitchen renovation. I felt confident in assembling the cabinets and finishing them (doors, hardware, drawers, toe kicks, etc) but we wanted a professional to make sure the cabinets were hung level, plumb, and square. From our first conversation it was obvious that Erik is an expert in all things IKEA. He provided some guidance and changes to our design to make some subtle improvements that would not have been obvious to us. He also immediately identified a critical flaw in our design that would have greatly impacted the final outcome but luckily we had enough time to get the proper replaced item. Communication with Erik was decent but be prepared for patience with emails and texts. Phone calls seemed to be most effective. Also be prepared to be patient for his schedule. Despite our efforts to plan ahead and get on “his radar” back in July, it still took several rounds of calls and discussions to finally get a week nailed down and the arrival day wasn’t determined until the week-of. You will need to be flexible. The installation was very fast - he had all of the work completed in one day. He is also very precise and detailed. He took time to show me how cabinets were anchored to the wall, that cabinets were level and prepped for the countertop template. He also cleaned up nicely, was courteous in our home and has a professional demeanor. The installation wasn’t without issue though. He accidentally stepped on a weak piece of our corner cabinet and broke it. His solution was to “sister” a piece below it. I was told it wouldn’t affect the countertops as this had no load bearing properties and it won’t be visible once countertops are installed. I believe that he is correct, and accidents happen, but it was disappointing as mishaps was something I wanted to avoid and large reason why we elected to hire someone rather than do the installation ourselves. No adjustment was made to the agreed upon price to account for the broken cabinet which I felt would have been the appropriate thing to do even it was a minor reduction. Overall, I would hire Erik again and be better prepared to be patient and clearly a communicate my expectations. He is precise, detailed, and very knowledgeable on IKEA systems. His involvement resulted in a nice overall outcome."

"From the beginning the owner’s arrogant bragging about the product and the high cost nothing rose even close to those claims. The install was 6 months after initial contact and 2 months after promised. Installed in our stairs during rain and snow and had to come back to reinstall because it was wobbly. The coating/paint was bubbled up and down the 30’ of stairs. Had to push to get them back to redo much of surface. All along the customer service person blamed everything but the installation and finishing. Gave the company another chance with a shorter railing on our covered porch. This was a better install yet less than 1 year after install there are areas where paint has chipped or not applied properly and iron is exposed and started to rust. No response from company when requested a a repair. Now it has been approximately 2 years since the long stair railing was installed. It has almost never been used because we enter from side of house at garage door. As I meet a delivery person on the stairs I saw that the top surface had discolored and there was numerous points where the paint had chipped and rust was starting. I immediately called the company and asked that we be scheduled to have a repair. As usual I talked to the same person who always answers the phone and received the standard reply, “ that should not have happened, did something scratch the surface? Well it will be awhile because we have a lot of re-dos scheduled and we are having trouble finding anyone to catch up on the requests. This was 2 months ago - no contact back from the company. All of the boasting and guarantees about quality and workmanship have never come close to the owners initial boasts. In summary - go elsewhere if you want quality workmanship, good customer service, timely installation and service, and standing behind product. It is possible that a customer with a large order and paying a lot more money may receive better response and service, but for the Average residential customer there seems to be little regard for quality and customer service. Obviously, I need to find another wrought iron company to remove and reapply a protective finish to my two sets of railings. With a proper quality finish this can be a great addition to our home. Thank you."

Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

Depending on the piece, there are times when you can paint over painted furniture. Start by applying a high-adhesion primer so that the new topcoat will stick. However, if the paint is peeling or chipping, it’s best to sand it down, use a paint stripper, or try a deglosser to ensure your new paint will adhere.

Telling the difference between high-quality wood furniture and lower-quality pieces is challenging, but there are a few sign that indicate whether your furniture is worth repairing:

  • Push your fingernail into an inconspicuous section of the wood. If it doesn’t leave a dent, it’s likely hardwood and is well worth a repair.

  • Unzip the bottom of couches to look for the structural components. If they’re made of wood rather than particle board, it’s likely worth refinishing.

  • Ask a local furniture repair technician. A reputable professional will let you know if you’re better off replacing rather than refinishing your specific item.

You can make your dining room look more expensive using one or more of several methods. If you're remodeling, you can consider raising the ceiling height, installing an elegant chandelier, or redoing the floor. For smaller renovations, consider changing the paint color to a deep and rich tone, such as burgundy or emerald. You can also swap out the table and chairs to achieve a richer appearance.

In most cases, it is more affordable to reupholster furniture than it is to replace it, but it depends on the quality and age of the furniture you’re considering getting reupholstered. Antique pieces are always worth reupholstering, as it’s the only way to preserve the piece and extend its life. Newer pieces of furniture are more often made using lower-quality materials like medium-density fiberboard or plywood that don’t have the same lifespan as things like hardwood. For newer pieces, your furniture reupholstery specialist should be able to help you determine the best course of action.

If you have decided that hiring a professional to refinish your floors will be faster and more satisfactory, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $2,500. To get a better idea of what your hardwood refinishing project will cost with a professional, multiply the project’s square footage by the average price of $4 per square foot.
