Splendor Shower Door was founded by Nick Nasser in 1952, as a fabricator of room partitions. In 1968, Splendor began fabricating and installing shower doors in the Toledo, Ohio area. Jack and Marilyn Wanamaker bought the company in 1978 and expanded the business geographically to Southern Michigan and Northeast Ohio. In 1992, Splendor introduced a framed series of shower enclosures and over the next 10 years, added semi-frameless and all-glass shower doors. The current owner, Tom Wanamaker, bought the company in 2004 and expanded service to 12 states. In 2012, Splendor added fabrication and tempering to become a complete shower door and glass company. Since 2012, Splendor has expanded to service 18 states through distributors and offers a full-line of glass and shower door product lines.

Glass and Mirrors questions, answered by experts

You can add glass to your existing kitchen cabinet doors with a few tools and some patience. We recommend following the DIY steps listed above, which include cutting a panel for the glass, cutting and adding the glass, and reattaching your cabinetry. If these steps seem too complicated or you’d rather have the peace of mind of a professional installation, hire a cabinet installation pro to handle this project for you.

Generally, large bathroom mirrors that have been secured to the wall with glue require a multistep removal process. By taping the mirror with masking tape or duct tape, you can potentially prevent dangerous shards from falling as you loosen the mirror. A heat gun or other heat source may be needed to loosen up the glue before it can be freed using a wire saw. With glued-down mirrors being the most dangerous to remove, it's wise to hire a professional instead of handling glass on your own.

Just how long it takes to install a wall mirror depends on the size of your wall, the type of mirror, the installation method, whether you decide to hire a professional, and the number of installers. For smaller walls with multiple trained professionals and acrylic mirror sheets, you can anticipate having your wall finished within an hour. Larger walls comprised of several custom mirrors can take upward of four hours to complete.

The average mirror has a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. After that, the coating begins to deteriorate, losing its reflective properties. Acrylic mirrors have a slightly shorter lifespan of seven to 10 years. Higher-quality acrylic sheets with UV-resistant properties have lifespans similar to those of your average mirror. By maintaining your mirrors and keeping them out of direct sunlight when not in use, you can extend their lifespan. Some mirrors can last for decades.

The size of your mirror depends on the size of your vanity and personal preference. Most people prefer a mirror that is 1 to 2 inches narrower than the width of their vanity, while others like a mirror that’s the same width as their vanity. Remember that the mirror should sit 5 to 10 inches above your faucet when choosing dimensions.
