"They did an excellent job installing a brick patio and planter for a very reasonable price. They came when they said they would and did the job in in a very short time frame because they have the proper equipment and sufficient skilled workers who work together efficiently and in harmony to produce a beautiful result. The owner Jason is a very nice person, easy to work with, planning for the project and producing the expected final result."

"This company did a fantastic and thorough job with my driveway. It's been over a year since I had it installed and no problems. A kid during trick-or-treating even said "nice driveway" haha."

"Nick and his crew were professional, thoughtful and thorough. They totally cleared out decades of trees, brush and overgrowth from around my house, and cleaned-up afterward. And they even responded to taking care of some last-minute wood clearing for me and my neighbor. They arrived exactly on time (also agreeing, at my request, to show up slightly later than they'd originally planned.) Nick even took extra effort to avoid chopping down a two-inch high hosta plant that I hoped would survive the near-by bush-chopping activity. I would certainly trust Nick's Four Seasons again in the future."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt dries and cures best between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This range allows moisture to evaporate quickly without causing the asphalt to cool too fast, which can negatively affect the drying process. However, keep in mind that other weather conditions can also affect curing and drying times, such as precipitation and humidity.

While the specific timeline for building a driveway can vary based on driveway length and local weather conditions, the average concrete driveway can require several days to lay down all of the different parts of the driveway. The curing process may require you to avoid using your driveway for a week following construction. Heavier vehicles should be kept off of a new concrete driveway for several weeks. Building a gravel driveway may take just one to two days in total.

New asphalt goes through two stages: drying and curing. Drying typically takes 24 to 72 hours, after which the surface is solid enough for light use like walking or careful driving. While you may be able to park on it after 72 hours, the surface is still soft and should be treated gently. Full curing is a much longer process, taking anywhere from 30 days to a full year for the asphalt to reach maximum strength. During this extended curing period, the asphalt is susceptible to damage from heavy vehicles, sharp objects, and high temperatures. Factors like weather, the specific asphalt mix, and application thickness all influence drying and curing times. For the most accurate timeline and to ensure the longevity of your new asphalt, it is always best to consult with your installation contractor for their specific recommendations.

The decision to repair or replace your driveway depends on the extent of the damage. If your driveway has a few small cracks, a simple repair will do the trick. If you see larger cracks and potholes, it may be time to consider resurfacing or replacement. Resurfacing is a great option if more than 25% of the surface is damaged, but if the damage is extensive—deep cracks or significant sinking—it’s best to replace the driveway entirely. A new driveway, with proper care, can last decades while patching or resurfacing might only hold up for a few years before needing more attention.

Asphalt edging secures the sides of your driveway to prevent crumbling and cracking over time. Most driveways have edges with a 45-degree grading. This helps transfer some of the stress from the asphalt to the ground underneath. If your driveway doesn’t have proper edging, the pressure from your car may break down the edges over time.
