"This is the second project we’ve done with Mike. Mike never disappoints. Awesome floor tiles and backsplash! Plus exhaust installation, plumbing, dishwasher installation, heating floor and many many more small things that we needed help with. He’ s always open minded, listening to customers requests, offering different solutions and always creative. Pleasure to work with."

"Contractor team led by Bobby tore out my existing tile shower, re-waterproofed the space, then tiled and grouted a new complex tile arrangement. While the shower did go in successfully, I had the following issues: 1) They damaged (broke) some of the floor tile, which I discovered after final payment. They offered to replace it if I can find the proper tile. neither the contractor nor I were able to find a matching tile therefore I elected to leave this broken. 2) They reinstalled the shower controls and head incorrectly so only the overhead flow works, but not the handheld which should be able to be toggled to. Lost pieces of the shower. And so there was like a flow control feature, that wouldn't work. We reach out to the manufacturer and thought they knew which part was based on like the video we sent them and they sent us that part and didn't work because I ended up having to buy an entirely new shower which cost me like 300/350 and I put it up myself. The contractor like did offer to pay for it but like ultimately I decided just like it was fine, 3) At each stage they asked me to go hunt for tile and/or accompanying products. Overall they got the job done, but it wasn’t great work and I’m going to have to pay another pro to fix some of the things that these guys did. Overall they got the job done . And took some extra time to remediate . Issues. They were very communicative and worked with me to remediate the problems. That were reasonable to fix. And therefore I consider working this contractor again."

"Excellent - I ended up hiring someone to help with shopping and finishing piece - waste of time and money. Jill's service was by far the most useful and best value in my decorating process.

"Elliott has done a good job so far. I'm happy with his work. When I wasn't happy with something he was most willing to fix it. I've recommended him to others and would hire him again."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The difference between floor and wall tiles is that floor tiles generally have higher strength and porosity ratings than wall tiles. Wall tiles are typically weaker and more likely to crack or become damaged under sustained pressure like high foot traffic.

For this reason, avoid using wall tiles on floors and vice versa.

The lifespan of bathroom tile can be 50 years or more, depending on proper installation and regular maintenance. A well-done tile job, whether it's a new installation or a retiling project, can last for many decades. To lengthen the life of your tile, it's best to have it installed by a professional and to perform regular maintenance. This includes routine cleaning, resealing, and regrouting as needed. With proper care, you can expect your tile to last 10 years or more before needing major repairs or retiling, especially in high-traffic areas where tiles can wear out more quickly.

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

It’s easiest to start from an edge as it gives you a straight line. A problem may arise if your edge doesn’t line up perfectly, in which case it’s best to start from the center. Some think that starting tile from the center adds a focal point in the center of the hearth.

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.
