RAC Engineering PC was created to provide home owners and others with an affordable engineering option with down to earth personnel that communicate in every day language so you will understand the complexities of construction projects and to help you understand why building codes are required for your safety

"Avoid this company. Completely unprofessional and unreliable. We hired them to complete an addition on our home. We paid half up front, continually reached out and waited multiple weeks between each communication. When they would finally respond, their drawings did not include the features we asked for, and our feedback was not considered in future drawings. We couldn't even get them to respond when we wanted to terminate the contract. We eventually had to pay the remaining balance to avoid them placing a lien on our home. DO NOT hire this company!"

Turner is a Professional Engineering Firm. Often the home owner or buyer needs an Engineering Report on the home. Sometimes its need is generated by bank appraiser from the future lender or a home inspection. Our report can cover: Structural issues, basement walls, crawl space, the new code for 2nd exit for basement, roof, electrical, mechanical and site reports. Should the homeowner want to remodel, we can design which is needed for a building permit Call 716)839-4020 or [email protected] for more information.

"He was extremely punctual, professional and very knowledgeable. He explained what everything was, how to fix some small trouble areas and answered all of our questions very pleased with his service and would absolutely use him again!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Dormers must be able to bear the load of their own construction and the added window. The style of the dormer, however, will determine where the weight loads onto your home's structure. A gable dormer bears the weight on the side walls whereas a shed dormer bears it on the front walls.

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

Absolutely, as it ensures designs are viable and won’t compromise structural integrity.

Many horizontal cracks in home foundations result from water and soil pressure from outside of the building or from a footing that is shifting. Under those circumstances, horizontal cracks are a structural problem that requires repair before they become worse and more difficult to fix. However, in very specific cases, thin horizontal cracks may simply be a cosmetic blemish due to concrete shrinkage.
