"Charlie from Carpetman of WNY arrived at my house on time, completely professional. He did an amazing job! He cleaned up everything, I'm a single girl it was hard to move some furniture by myself. He moved it all and put it back for a small fee. It was so worth it!! He installed 2 rooms of new carpet and in my basement he restretched a carpet that had alot of bubbles in it from another company. Charlie had it looking perfect in no time! I love the transformation. I would hire him back at any time!! Thanks Charlie!!!"

"This company is awesome! I’ve hired multiple carpet companies over the years. Never impressed until now. They took a 20 year old house we bought never taken care of, and brought to carpets back to new. Absolutely outstanding work ethic and treated it like it was their home. Recommended hire all day long!"

"I scheduled two estimates the week before. Alex was the only one who showed up. We were surprised at how low his estimate was, and perhaps he did underestimate the time it would take to clear out the house, basement, attic and garage. The next week he arrived on schedule with two workers, one who began hauling junk out of the basement (a lot, by the way, that had been there when my parents moved in) and the other who began dustin cobwebs from the ceilings and sorting out small trash. he opted to haul stuff with his trailer, rather than using a dumpster, which resulted in a longer tie frame. He had to return the next day to finish. And that he did, and was true to his estimate.

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, carpets should be replaced after a house fire or significant smoke damage, even if they appear undamaged. Smoke, soot, particulates, and chemicals can penetrate deep into the carpet fibers and padding, making complete removal a complicated and time-consuming process. If water was used to extinguish the fire, it can also soak through the carpet and padding, creating a risk of mold and mildew growth. Due to these challenges and potential health risks, replacing the carpet is the safest and most effective solution.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

No, it works best under synthetic carpets in high-traffic or moisture-prone areas. Avoid using moisture barrier padding under natural fiber carpets like wool, which need air circulation. The barrier can trap the moisture against natural fibers and cause problems. Also, you can skip it in low-risk areas like upstairs guest bedrooms, where the extra protection often isn't worth the added cost.

No, thick carpet padding isn’t necessarily better than thinner padding. The appropriate padding thickness will depend on the type of carpet and the amount of foot traffic in the area.

For example, thick padding works well in low-traffic areas, like bedrooms, where you have soft and plush carpeting. However, thick carpet padding can damage low-pile carpet, which is used in the busiest parts of your home (like hallways and entryways). For that reason, it’s best to use thinner, heavier padding underneath carpet in high-traffic areas.

The life span of carpet in a home with children and animals depends on factors like the carpet material’s quality, how frequently you clean and maintain it, and the level of foot traffic. On average, carpets need to be replaced every five to 15 years. Signs of wear, matting, or persistent odors may indicate that it's time to contact a local flooring company to replace your carpet.
