"Worst carpet installation experience ever. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. 3 carpet installers arrived at my door, when I opened it they had opened the storm door and were just inches from my face. They were not wearing masks as per NYS Covid-19 business compliance executive orders. They continued into my home with no regard for the safety of my family and when asked about compliance, they informed me that they were not required by their employer, Carpet Collection, to health screen or wear any PPE. They began the installation by attempting to tie my living room drapes in knots, at which time I stopped them and took my drapes down. They used my bathroom multiple times, leaving a mess and URINE ON MY BATHROOM FLOOR! Once the carpet was in place they proceeded to walk in and out of my home with their shoes on, all over the brand new carpet. They did not clean up the mess after installation, leaving behind loose staples, various nails and cut carpet debris all over my home. They stated they were done and were leaving,  When I asked them to clean up their mess they told me no, "That's all you." While cleaning up after this horrible installation team, I found 4 nails, sticking up in the middle of my upstairs hallway in the new carpet. These nails were not driven into the floor, rather they were left at carpet height, sticking up roughly 1 inch. This was an incredibly dangerous thing to find and done purposely and maliciously to injure my family. The owners of the store, Gary Case and his son, Ben, refused to give me any information on the 3 men they sent to my home, as I would like to file criminal charges. They confirmed via email that they are not following Covid-19 compliance. They also stated that they were personally and professionally embarrassed by the way their crew left my home. However, they offered no compensation for any of these enormous problems. I have filed complaints with the New York State Department of Health and with the Better Business Bureau."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

In Buffalo, homeowners often underestimate the importance of subfloor preparation and moisture control, especially in older homes. Skipping carpet acclimation, choosing the wrong carpet padding, or overlooking the need for furniture removal can lead to issues. Not planning for weather delays or selecting materials unsuited for NY’s climate are also frequent mistakes. Working with experienced local installers helps avoid these common pitfalls.

Helpful?

In Buffalo, hidden costs during carpet installation often stem from subfloor preparation, such as addressing moisture issues, leveling uneven surfaces, or repairing damaged areas. Additional expenses may include carpet removal, disposal fees due to local regulations, and the need for carpet padding or moisture barriers. Installing carpet on stairs, moving heavy furniture, or ordering specialty materials can also increase the final project scope, so review your estimate closely.

Helpful?

For Buffalo’s climate, opt for solution-dyed nylon or triexta carpets, which resist stains and moisture. Wool blends also perform well in NY’s temperature swings. Use high-density carpet padding with a moisture barrier, especially for basements. Stainless steel tack strips and adhesives rated for cold weather help prevent rust and ensure a secure installation. Medium pile carpets with synthetic backings handle tracked-in snow and salt effectively.

Helpful?

In Buffalo, installing carpet in a single room typically takes 2-4 hours, but projects can extend to 6-8 hours if subfloor preparation or carpet removal is needed. Whole-house installations may require 1 to 5 days, depending on home size and layout. Winter weather, material delivery times, and coordinating multiple rooms can cause delays, so it’s wise to add extra time to your project schedule.

Helpful?

Before starting carpet installation in Buffalo, inspect for moisture or humidity issues, especially in basements, and address them early. Measure each room carefully, as older homes often have irregular layouts. Schedule installation during milder months for fewer weather-related delays. Clear furniture and create accessible pathways for installers. Allow time for carpet acclimation in a climate-controlled space, and confirm your contractor’s experience with Buffalo’s unique housing conditions.
