"Very prompt service. Good communication regarding the work to be done. Rugs arrived back in great, clean condition. Price was what I expected and was worth the services that I received. I would definitely use them again."

"Worst carpet installation experience ever. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. 3 carpet installers arrived at my door, when I opened it they had opened the storm door and were just inches from my face. They were not wearing masks as per NYS Covid-19 business compliance executive orders. They continued into my home with no regard for the safety of my family and when asked about compliance, they informed me that they were not required by their employer, Carpet Collection, to health screen or wear any PPE. They began the installation by attempting to tie my living room drapes in knots, at which time I stopped them and took my drapes down. They used my bathroom multiple times, leaving a mess and URINE ON MY BATHROOM FLOOR! Once the carpet was in place they proceeded to walk in and out of my home with their shoes on, all over the brand new carpet. They did not clean up the mess after installation, leaving behind loose staples, various nails and cut carpet debris all over my home. They stated they were done and were leaving,  When I asked them to clean up their mess they told me no, "That's all you." While cleaning up after this horrible installation team, I found 4 nails, sticking up in the middle of my upstairs hallway in the new carpet. These nails were not driven into the floor, rather they were left at carpet height, sticking up roughly 1 inch. This was an incredibly dangerous thing to find and done purposely and maliciously to injure my family. The owners of the store, Gary Case and his son, Ben, refused to give me any information on the 3 men they sent to my home, as I would like to file criminal charges. They confirmed via email that they are not following Covid-19 compliance. They also stated that they were personally and professionally embarrassed by the way their crew left my home. However, they offered no compensation for any of these enormous problems. I have filed complaints with the New York State Department of Health and with the Better Business Bureau."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, carpet tiles are easy to install—even if you don’t have much DIY experience. In fact, the simple installation process is one of the main reasons that people choose carpet tiles over traditional carpet. Since carpet tiles come in individual squares, they aren’t as heavy or awkward to install as regular carpet. Plus, you don’t need specialized equipment (like knee kickers or carpet stretchers) when installing carpet tiles.

With proper care, carpet tile can last 10 to 20 years. These tiles are used in office settings and are designed to handle heavy foot traffic. However, tiles can start to look a little less fresh over time in super busy homes with pets and kids. Keeping extra tiles on hand to swap out will ensure your carpet looks its best.

You may get better coverage painting your baseboards if you do so before carpet is installed. The best course of action may be to attempt to paint them between having the old floor removed and the new floor laid, though this will render the room unusable for a period of time and may make the entire project a bit slower overall.

When installing carpeting on your steps, start at the top and work your way to the bottom. That way, you can easily control the carpet and create a better seal. This approach prevents the carpet from bunching up or creating wrinkles as you work. You’ll have better leverage over it as gravity helps guide it down each step.

The knee kicker tool that attaches carpet to tack strips offers some stretching capabilities, so you can use this and your own arm strength to stretch out thinner carpets across a room. But you should buy or rent a stretcher for the best possible carpet application. If you don’t want to buy or rent a stretcher, it may be worth it to skip the DIY and leave this job to the pros or risk shortening the life of your new carpet by installing it without a stretcher.
