"Work was done punctually, safely, swiftly and with our backyard gazebo, shed, fence, etc in mind. All workers were courteous. They were the only company that we didn't have to take apart our fence and use the neighbors yard to enter. The owner Paul was wonderful to work with and always returned text messages. Cost was cheaper than all other companies and still excellent work and customer service. Highly recommend!"

"For the removal of 12 trees on my daughter's property I chose 'Mis Tree Services' out of Youngstown. The 'Mis Tree' crew began the job at 8am and was packed up and gone by 5pm! They had ALL the necessary equipment and more importantly they had employees that knew exactly what they were doing. When a tree couldn't be reached with the boom equipment, they had a climber, when the trees were down, they brought in their stump grinder. If you are in need of a reputable, expert, fairly priced tree service call Travis Mis at 716-957-4367 or email him at [email protected]"

"Great experience, communication was clear and detailed. The job was fully explained to me and was completed in less than a day. I had two trees fully removed, one hoboes over water as well but there were zero concerns on their end! The crew cleaned up properly after the job was done and they were all extremely professional. Highly recommend them if you’re looking to get the job done right the first time in a quick and efficient manor!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It’s not always easy to tell when a tree is dying, although signs like dropping branches and brittle bark can sometimes offer clues. It can also be difficult to know whether a tree is dead or dormant, especially if it’s a deciduous tree. You’ll want to wait until a growth season to get a good idea of a tree’s health. When in doubt, contact an arborist for a consultation.

Usually, trees cannot grow back after their stump has been ground, but some very hearty types of trees can. For example, if you have a black locust or Redford pear, the grinding will need to go deep to prevent them from growing back. Ask your tree service or stump removal expert whether your tree can resprout after its stump is ground down.

There are a few differences between tree guying and tree staking. Tree guying requires anchor stakes that are shorter and stronger than regular stakes and are driven deeper into the ground at an angle away from the tree. Tree staking uses longer stakes that are set parallel to the tree and are used for smaller trees. Consult a local tree professional to determine which method is best for your tree.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

It’s possible, although a lot depends on the cause of damage and what steps you take. If the remaining parts of the maple tree are alive and not under attack by disease or pests, they can often be saved even if large portions of the maple tree have died. Frequent watering, careful pruning, mulch, and any recommended fungicides or insecticides can all help with survival.
