Because he gave us a good price on the roof, and because we were having a hard time finding a carpenter (it was summer and most contractors were months out), we had Elvin build a fence for our dogs. The fence is a shadow fence with a lattice top and we get a lot of compliments about how nice it looks. Unfortunately, Elvin started at one end, instead of starting from the center and working out, so there are a lot of half boards where there shouldn't be. Also, the fasteners he used are very noticeable and need to be camouflaged. For our current project, he reinforced and added lolly columns to support the first floor and parged the walls in our cellar. It is a stone wall and part of that wall was collapsing. Elvin rebuilt it and it looks great. Elvin's younger sons cleaned out a lot of junk that had been left in the cellar and removed rotten insulation in one of the attic crawl spaces. The boys are all very sweet but not very contentious. We found junk dumped in the garden, dumped a foot away from the dumpster, and full vacuum/garbage bags left in the mudroom. Elvin tore out the main section of the house and installed the framing. He leveled the floors, tore out an old stairwell and put in the framing for a new staircase. At this point we had to stop building. Now that we've had time to look at the work done, we have had found many problems. Corners were left unsupported; the walls are not level; studs were cut short and just toenailed in place; studs are crooked in the door frames; and several studs were scabbed in to fit. One section of floor will need to be ripped up and replaced because it was pieced in to fit and not sufficiently supported underneath. And they didn't flush out all his fasteners/screws in the floor decking. While Elvin is very hard working, he cannot read blueprints. If he is unfamiliar with something, and you don't tell him how to do it, he will improvise. When the building inspector came, he told us that had problems with Elvin in the past and that he is very close to fining him for not building to code. (He's had several warnings) Elvin's rates are inconsistent. Some jobs he quotes by the job, but for the renovation of the interior he charged us by the hour ($55/hour for him and his son. We have since found rates of $25-$35/hour for the same work.) Elvin's son/assistant does not measure very well and it is apparent in all the short studs we've found. The worst part was that a substantial part of the gutting/rebuilding was done in the winter and they would leave windows open while they were working. Our fuel bill went through the roof because the furnace was on while we were at work, and the heat was going out the windows. (On the days I was home, I would turn off the furnace and had to huddle in front of a space heater.) Once, Elvin left the windows open after leaving for the day and the temp was in the teens - inside and out before we discovered the open windows. He did call several hours later to tell us after he remembered. They were supposed to clean up but I had to clean up several areas. I estimate it took me 2-3 days to clean up these areas. Framing with exposed nails was left around the house and were a danger to us, and our cats and dogs. Elvin was paid to remove an old chimney last year and it has not been done yet. He also recommended a painter who not only overcharged us but has never completed the work. Elvin works exclusively with his oldest son and they are both very nice and receptive to any requests we have. He is punctual and very easy to get in touch with. He will re-do anything you ask him to fix but we are financially not in a position to work with him at an hourly rate. We would hire him in the future for basic jobs but are going to use different contractors to complete the work that is already in process. We had 6 wooden dining room chairs which were my grandmother's (so at least 60 years old, as she died at 90ish); wooden backs, seats worn through and what appeared to be kapok stuffing falling out here and there. Not particularly good quality chairs I don't think, but of sentimental value to me. We also had another, nonmatching wooden chair which I wanted reupholstered in a matching fabric. All had dings and scratches and occasional loose joints, and we had put sticky felt on the bottoms of the legs to avoid scratching our dining room floor. I telephoned to ask if he could do the job, phone was answered promptly and pleasantly by Mr. Hayden himself, appt made for us to bring chairs to him the following day (a Saturday in early June 2013). I did not have upholstery cloth picked out, he said fine to get it elsewhere (he could tell us how much needed after seeing chairs) or he had some we could look at. Address he wanted chairs brought to was different from that listed as Havenhouse Upholstery on Google (it appears on Google as Havenhouse all one word); appeared to be his home when we got there. He had a furniture-filled workshop in his back garage which is where we dropped off the chairs; he had about a dozen different rolls of upholstery cloth of different patterns/fabrics in the back of his minivan and we chose one we liked from that selection (I am perfectly happy with what we chose, but do not consider myself a picky shopper in matters of style -- durability and stain resistance more important as we have kids, and he recommended some of what he brought as more durable than other fabrics, we chose from those). Estimate was $575 for reseating/upholstery/stain guarding and $200 for repairs to chairs (he said refinishing was not recommended for chairs like these, and that was not our focus anyway), paid by check $250 deposit. He said it would take several weeks. Late June I called to check and let him know we would be unreachable for a week, he said he was almost done. As arranged he called me after we returned to arrange pickup, appt made for next day. He stated repairs had been more extensive than estimated and would be an extra $75 (I made no quibbles). Place to pick up was another different address. I had to call to confirm address twice (trouble entering into GPS) but each time Mr. Hayden answered right away himself and was immediately helpful. and quot;Haven House Upholsteryand quot; or similar not seen on signage of building at that address when I arrived so I phoned; he drove to where I was (took 1 minute) and led me back to a storage unit containing a workspace and lots of furniture including our chairs. He helped me load up and I paid remainder by check to him personally, receiving receipt with both Haven House Upholstery and his name at the top which lays out work done nicely but does not include tax line (I have to assume sales tax was included in the price). Quality of the work: seats look great, very comfortable to sit on with good firm/soft balance for both me (short and fat) and husband (tall and thin), fabric fits tightly and is beautifully folded over corners and evenly trimmed underneath, a lot better than the original seats even before they wore through. The fabric we chose had a herringbone pattern which would show minor faults in alignment easily and this was perfectly aligned on each chair. Wood had greatly diminished ding/scratch appearance, still present (as expected) but have to look a lot harder to find them. Joints very stable now, no leaked glue visible (if he used glue; I didn't ask how he made repairs). Unasked, he had replaced the sticky felt pads under each chairleg with the same color and thickness we had used. Overall, I am very pleased with the work quality. Timing and what would and could not be done was all accurately explained in words I could understand. Cost was a bit more than original estimate but I believe the chairs deserved this as he hadn't tested the joints a lot before making his estimate, and this is not a visible problem. I had expected more of a storefront experience given the name and quot;Havenhouse Upholsteryand quot; but reaching and dealing with Mr. Hayden was easy at all times. My only concern is the lack of evidence of having paid sales tax on the receipt, which I did not notice until I got home. I would use him again if needed; he seems to be a real craftsman who cares about quality and that is well worth putting up with a slightly less-than-slick business demeanor. They told us it would be done by Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then December 13, 2012. They "finished" according to them 12/18/2012. They are NOT done according to us. They did not do half of the electrical as requested. They had one person work at a time on a kitchen that in there words is "twice the size of a normal kitchen". A lot of wasted time, sometimes would not show until 1 pm then leave at 4pm. Counter tops installed in 2 hours by subcontractors, no other work done by QH that day. Damage to hardwood floors in other rooms. No drop cloths, very minor clean up. Found brand new drawers filled with trash. We were told different things would be installed by different people only to have those people tell us that was not their job. Two of their workers were fabulous and did great work, however, we had four different workers throughout the job. Their flooring subcontractor was dragging plywood across brand new hardwood floors and then stomped cardboard boxes on the same floor until my eight year old son said "I don't think you should do that and you need to pull up your pants too." When this was told to QH they started trying to "guess" what crew it was. They gave us no time between the new ceiling being installed and the cabinets being installed to paint saying they needed to "keep us on time" then went over their time by more than a week. There were things that were not done correctly and we have been waiting two weeks for them to come back and fix them and have called at least 4 times in the two weeks and keep getting told that they have to talk about it and send someone out to fix the issues. When I said "I'm not happy" I am told "Neither are we." Well then, fix the issues and we can all be happy and you can get the final payment. A lot of their finish work is already starting to fall apart. Thresholds in doorways are coming off because they were nailed when they were supposed to be glued, etc. They needed to patch a spot in the hardwood floors from where they moved the door and used the wrong flooring! We left them a brand new piece of cherry flooring to fix it and they walked right past the cherry flooring and grabbed a piece of walnut flooring that was from another room and never asked about the difference. They played a lot of games and gave a lot of excuses. I will never hire them again. Excellent service! These guys are THE BEST!! Home warranty company first suggested another technician who falsely diagnosed the problem and ordered replacement parts. After months of texted excuses and delays, he finally sent others over who replaced the parts but since the unit still didn't...
Owner William "Tim" Miner informed me doors were of poor quality. Tried to sell me new doors instead and refused installation job because of the attempt at an upsale. I do not recommend.

"Alamo Garage Doors provided an outstanding experience when my garage door stopped opening one morning. The technician arrived quickly, identified the issue with the motor, and repaired it on-site. He also checked the door’s balance and made a few adjustments that made it work smoother than before. I really appreciated their honesty and efficiency."

FAQs for garage door service projects in Wyoming, NY
Garage door repairs cost$260 on average but can range anywhere from $80 to $675. Factors such as the type of repair needed, the style of your garage door, and the material your door is made of all play a part in the final price tag.
For example, wood garage doors look beautiful but are prone to dents, splitting, and cracks that are difficult to fix. You can expect to spend an average of $200 to $300 to repair your wooden garage door. Fiberglass garage doors are more durable and less expensive to fix, averaging around $100 to $200.
The cost of replacing garage door panels is around $1,200 for the average homeowner. However, depending on a few factors, you could pay as little as $250 or as much as $3,000 or more. Considerations like panel style and the type of garage door you have all factor into what you pay.
While sectional garage doors are common among homeowners, they are often the most expensive to replace, averaging around $700 to $2,400. Tilt-up garage doors, which are the simplest door available, range from $400 to $1,400.
Annual to biannual routine garage door maintenance is vital to extending its life as much as possible. Most importantly, noticing any unusual sounds or movements and taking care of them as soon as possible is one of the best ways to maintain your garage door. Keeping the tracks clear of dirt and debris and lubricating the rollers and other moving parts twice a year will also help to get the most out of your door.
Even though garage doors can last 15 to 30 years, it’s important to recognize the signs of wear and tear or other damage that might cause the need for a repair or replacement. A big sign that your garage door needs repair or replacement is the door not opening and closing correctly, including moving slower than usual. Also, if you notice that your garage door is becoming warped or overly weathered, it’s time to call a professional to discuss your options and tips for buying a new garage door.
Garage doors generally last between 15 to 30 years, depending on many factors. Your location plays an essential role in your garage door’s lifespan—doors exposed to harsh elements like heavy rain or intense heat might not last as long as those installed in a milder climate. How often you use your garage door also factors into its overall lifespan. Generally, standard garage door springs can withstand 20,000 cycles, whereas tension springs typically last between 5,000 and 10,000.
