"From our first mtg till the actual work was done, it was a very easy process. Joe ( the salesman and Greg ( the installer) were both very informative and easy to talk to. I’m looking forward to no more dry skin and delicious water to drink"

"The installation of the hot water tank was great. I was not happy that they did not drain any water from the old tank, I believe that once they determined that they could not empty the water anywhere in the basement except outside they just left it. I am in my seventies and I had to do it the next day so I could move the tank."

"I did not use Astar for services, but I was so pleased with their support and professionalism over the phone, I would not hesitate to use them in the future.  I felt compelled to write that here today.  On a holiday weekend, after trying two other companies, they were a live voice that helped to calm and point me in the right direction to diagnosing my problem, which at the end of the day was an empty propane tank.  Kathy was so supportive on the phone, and let me know that they are there to help should I need.  It's the kind of support and service we all long for.  Thank you Kathy for being there for me today.

"Everyone else I had on-site to assess my situation merely wanted to sell me a new water filtration system…. Aquasource took the time to truly understand what was happening & come up with the best plan to mitigate the issues. Very happy with the work thus far. For my situation, the real test on whether the work completed will totally ‘fix’ my issue (s) has yet to occur. However, Aquasource stands behind their work & I know that if I still need adjustments, he’ll support those needs. I would definitely recommend this company!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

If your water softener repair is fairly straightforward, like a simple filter replacement, then you can probably do it yourself with little risk. However, anything beyond a simple fix should be addressed by someone with extensive plumbing expertise to avoid costly water softener problems, like leaks.

That said, even simple problems can be complicated to diagnose, particularly if your water softener is attached to a whole-house treatment system. So, unless you feel absolutely certain that the problem is an easy fix that you can take on yourself, it's probably best to hire a plumber to diagnose and fix the problem.

Water purifiers and water softeners serve different purposes, so the best one will depend on your particular needs. Water purifiers remove contaminants from water (such as bacteria, viruses, and chemicals), leaving you with ultra-clean and safe water. However, water softeners remove minerals from your water so that the water doesn’t leave stains around your house or cause plumbing problems.

If your ‘do isn’t doing what you want it to do despite using good hair care products, hard water might be to blame. Since hard water can’t rinse soap off as well as soft water can, your hair might grow limp because of the shampoo and conditioner residue that’s left behind. If you color your hair, you might see it fade more quickly or even turn a different shade as the dye reacts with the minerals in the water. You might also experience an itchy scalp, thanks to the dryness that comes from bathing in the hard water.

Yes, a water softener can remove scale deposits. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, after you add a water softener to your home, “gradually the softer water will dissolve limescale scale deposits and remove the problem entirely.” Installing a water softener—or water descaler—will also help prevent new scale deposits from forming.

The main difference between a water softener and a water filter is what they remove from the water. A water softener is specifically designed to remove hard minerals, while a filter removes a wider range of contaminants above a certain size, such as bacteria and other impurities. If your primary goal is to remove minerals, a softener is the best choice. If you want to remove various contaminants for safety or taste, a filter is more suitable. Filters are also typically less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply's specific issues, you may need to install both systems for comprehensive treatment.
