"Sergio repaired a leak from my second floor bathroom through the ceiling into my first floor bsthroom a year and four months ago. He had to remove the toilet to secure the hrass ring mounting plate to the sub floor and replace the wax ring gasket, then re-install the toilet. That repair took a couple of hours and is still good to this day. When I noticed that I had no hot water yesterday and trried repeatedly to re-light the pilot on my thirteen year old water heater to no avail, I called Pipe Service Pros in the late afternoon without hesitation and made an appointment.with Sergio. He came by ten o'clock this morning and all he needed to do was push a reset button on the burner control module and then light the pilot. It's great to have an honest serviceman because he could have sold me a new burner assembly or a wjole new wster heater thst I fidn't need. Your garbage disposal will only affect the health of your septic tank if you’re using it too frequently, or filling it with organic waste that doesn’t fully break down. If the tank fills up with too many solids, the bacteria won’t have enough time to consume it before more is added, which can lead to an overflow in the drain field. Your tank will need to be pumped more frequently with excessive or improper garbage disposal use.

The purpose of a septic tank is to allow solid wastes to separate out of the wastewater using time, gravity, and other natural biological processes. If your septic tank is too small, it might be overwhelmed by solid waste and unable to accomplish this task—and if it’s far too large, there won’t be enough liquid in the tank to nurture the necessary bacteria to aid in the breakdown process.

A septic tank always has some amount of liquid in it—which should usually be 8 to 12 inches from the top of the tank. If the liquid level is higher than that or is overflowing the drainage pipe that leads out to the leach field, the tank may be too full and in need of pumping.

Although cesspits may be necessary depending on your main sewage system access or nearby soil quality, they carry a few drawbacks. Cesspools require regular emptying and have relatively high maintenance and pumping costs. Certain areas also disallow the use of cesspools and may require you to cover the cost of existing cesspools to be converted into septic tanks.

If you’re going away on vacation or leaving your home for a long time, it’s a good idea to switch off your well pump and pressure tank before you go. This way you can prevent any damage from unexpected leaks that may occur or unforeseen electrical issues while you’re away.
