"Because of COVID, my windows were delayed. Communication from the salesman could have been better, but that is nit picking. I am super happy with my windows - and one set was very difficult to place. Despite this, the job was done perfectly. It is VERY obvious which of my windows were placed by ASW&D. Roof vents are an essential part of a roof, as they promote energy efficiency by keeping warm, humid air at bay. The roofing material, especially asphalt shingles, will not last as long as it should (about half of its manufacture life) if the attic is not ventilated. Also, going without ventilation means having a warm attic that demands more from your air conditioning system (and your wallet, once the bills come). Ridge vents and roof vents also prevent a host of other icky moisture-related problems like rot, mold, and mildew.

Pea-sized hail can damage a roof if it experiences hailstorms often, as it slowly causes cracks and deterioration to your shingles. Usually, one hailstorm with pea-sized hail won’t damage your roof, but if you see other damage to your car, grill, and other property, it may be worthwhile to get in touch with your insurance company and have a local roofer come out for an inspection.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

It is not always necessary to put wood stripping (also called furring strips) under a metal roof, but some metal roofs require stripping to work efficiently. For example, you must use furring strips when installing metal over shingles in order to connect the shingles to the metal roofing. These strips are made of metal or wood. They create thermal breaks and provide a solid frame to which you can attach the metal roofing. A lack of wood stripping can cause condensation issues under certain roofs, so use the roofing manufacturer’s specifications as your guide.
