Celebrating over 40 years in business! Harding Plumbing and Heating Co. was started in 1978, with over 60 years combined experience. We are a family owned & operated company, E.P.A. certified and fully insured. We offer fair pricing for excellent workmanship. We stand behind our work & business name. With 24 hour emergency service and 7 technicians we have the ability to complete large and small projects.

"Thanks to Harding we will not have to enter this years cold season without heat! We are in the process of buying an older house that still had its (almost) original boiler furnace. They were quick to get to our house (we live outside of the Perry area and they never hesitated on wanting to help us) to inspect and even send a second guy (SAME DAY!) to give us a pretty good quote. They were quick to schedule the complete install of our new unit and the guys who came and worked on it were amazing! So friendly and professional who made sure we had all of the questions we could think of answered before they left (they even took the ancient broken system with them.) They made sure to walk us through the upkeep once winter ends and double tested everything to make sure it was going to do what it was supposed to do! Now that we have our full unit replaced we can sleep peaceful (and toasty warm) this winter and for the winters to come. Gladly recommend these guys for any questions, repairs, or replacements!"

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

A two-way cleanout can help if there’s already a clog, but the best strategy to prevent one is by not rinsing grease, oil, or fat down your drains, not flushing or rinsing coffee grounds or egg shells down your drains, flushing only human waste and toilet paper (so no diapers, period products, bathroom wipes, or paper towels), and using drain guards on all of your drains.

That pungent rotten egg smell coming from your drain is likely the buildup of biofilm—hair, skin, and soap scum that turns into a black sticky mess. In this case, pouring down near-boiling water, baking soda, and white vinegar will remove the smell. Keep in mind that a rotten egg smell is occasionally a sign of larger sewage line clogs and other related issues.

No, you typically cannot use metal detectors to find your sewer line. Most sewer lines are made of non-metallic materials such as PVC, clay, or cast iron, which are not detectable by standard metal detectors. Metal detectors are designed to locate metallic objects, so they won't be effective for identifying the path of a non-metallic sewer line. To locate your sewer line accurately, it's best to use other methods.

Outdoor plumbing issues are no less serious or urgent to fix than interior plumbing problems. These problems may require excavation and lawn repair due to the plumbing often being buried underground. The most common outside plumbing problems include:

  • Clogged landscape drainage: $200–$1,000

  • Clogged sewer lines: $60–$250 per linear foot

  • Corroded or rusted pipes: $1,500–$15,000+

  • Leaking drain lines: $200–$1,000

  • Leaking water mains: $300–$4,000+

  • Septic system failure: $600–$3,000+

  • Tree roots in pipes: $200–$1,000

  • Well pump failure: $350–$1,500

The best drain cleaners are biodegradable ones or a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Strong, caustic chemicals may seem appealing with promises of unclogging your drain quickly, but liquid drain cleaners can cause damage to your pipes over time. Consider making your own drain cleaner with baking soda and vinegar.
