Benson Enterprises is a full service landscaping company serving this area since 1987. Scott Benson’s experience in the landscaping field since 1987 encompasses all aspects of landscaping and landscape design. As the owner of Benson Enterprises, Scott believes customer service is his #1 priority and maintains a personal approach by being readily accessible to his customers from beginning to end. A job is not complete unless it is done to his satisfaction! The company remains small enough to give you the personal attention that you desire and deserve, while still large enough to handle most any project. Additional contact name - Greg Fritz. Award winning.

"This was our 3rd project with Benson and like the first two, we are thrilled with the results! Hector and Alexis are amazing workers. They showed up, rain or shine, and put in a full day of work, assuring that the project would be done on time, as originally planned. This was no minor mulch job. It was a full blown, weeklong undertaking. When they were done, the lawn was graded with topsoil, grass seed was added, and hay was set on top to protect the new growth."

OVER 50 YEARS of quality service to our clients. Satisfaction is our goal. Qualified Arborists on site. Senior Landscape Professionals and Certified Nursery Landscape Professionals available to answer your questions.

"Apparently, Ted Collins bought out our lawn maintenance guy's business. We asked our guy several times when he would come to clean leaves, and it was always "next week". After a few snows, we had just about given up that they would show. Then one day without notice, a crew from Ted Collins showed up unannounced. They had 8 guys and finished the job in 40 minutes. We then got a bill for over $500. Seems a bit excessive for 6 man-hours of blowing leaves."

Broccolo is a woman owned, WBE, and family operated business. We have crews based in Henrietta and Fairport to serve our clients best, as well as a Garden center to provide quality plants and an educational shopping experience.

"Terrible! We wanted a comprehensive service. Spring cleanup, mulching beds, weeding, edging, lawn treatments, hedge trimming, fall cleanup. Everything except lawn mowing (which they don't do). The price was high, but I signed up so that everything would be taken care of. It seemed like every few weeks we would run into something that "wasn't in the contract, but they would be happy to do for an additional cost". Right now I'm looking out at my lawn full of leaves. Apparently, raking/blowing the leaves isn't included in the "fall cleanup". But they will be happy to do it for another $500 (on top of the $5,000 I'm already paying for "comprehensive service"). They never answer the phone, and don't return phone calls. One department doesn't speak to the other. So we got a call from the lawn treatment team telling us they can't treat the lawn until the leaves are removed, so we called to ask when the leaves will be removed from the lawn. They gave us a date, but no one showed up. We call several times over the course of several weeks, and finally get a team out, but they end up cleaning only the beds, not the lawn. When we ask why we were told they would be cleaning the lawn, we get the run around. The treatment team often showed up on rainy days, so I doubt the lawn got much fertilizer. We told them we wanted some new rhododendrons (happy to pay extra for this, of course), and they never asked me what type of rhododendrons to plant. Instead one day I just found we had new bushes, which weren't what I had in mind (they have small leaves instead of the large leaf ones, and I have no idea what color flowers. I guess I'll find out next spring). They left no instructions for care of the new bushes. My lawn has NEVER looked worse. They filled some low spots on the lawn with topsoil (again, an extra charge for that even though it was just a few spots), and we ended up with an infestation of nutsedge. We had never had nutsedge before, so I'm pretty sure it came in with their topsoil. They were happy to charge me extra to treat it for nutsedge (I ended up doing it myself). I have seldom had such a horrible experience with a service provider."

"We hired Benson to repair our lawn after finding out that we had chinch bugs. While Benson does not handle treatment for insect damage, they referred us to Highpoint Lawn Service. So we contacted Highpoint to spray the lawn to get rid of the I sectsand then Benson to repair the damage in late summer-Fall 2017. When the grass started coming up in early spring 2018, it was about 10% grass and 90% weeds!! Every kind of wee imaginable! I contacted Scott, the owner in early Spring who said he has on his list to come back out and add more topsoil and seed. I said I wanted him to put down a better quality of seed because all I had coming up was weeds. After my husband and I made repeated calls, because they never came out, which they ignored, they finally called and said they were going to come out in late June while we were going through a heat wave. When they came out they were going to put down the same seed. We said no again - that they needed to put something higher quality down which they refused. Meanwhile, Highpoint was treating the lawn according to their recommended treatment schedule. They came out 3 times and after their third visit, the following week we noticed the chinch bugs were back! We contacted Highpoint who refused to take responsibility and said to my husband that they only treated for the chinch bugs once which was the previous fall! My husband said to them, you were just out and you didn’t notice the insects were back? The person started to tell my husband he had a degree in this kind of thing and you usually only treat once. Meanwhile we sank about $1,400 on lawn treatment and repair between these two companies that refer and work together and nobody wants to own it. I have since spoken to 2 other people in my neighborhood who have used these companies and said they stopped after being billed for services not performed. My recommendation to anyone considering using either Benson Enterprises or Highpoint Lawn Service, is DON’T! My lawn looks far worse now than before and I have had to pay someone else to do the work I paid both of them to do a year ago."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Make your ryegrass thicker by boosting soil health. Add organic matter, aerate the lawn if the soil is compacted, fertilize appropriately, and see if your lawn needs dethatching. Your local lawn care service can come and look at your lawn and provide specific advice and remedies for your lawn issues.

Enhanced root development, better fertilizer uptake, and improved drought resistance.

Throwing grass seed on existing lawn isn’t likely to germinate, grow roots, or become healthy grass. You need to prep the soil, spread fertilizer with your seed, and sow the seed into the soil. Water the seed every day for two weeks to ensure it germinates and grows roots. Be sure to stay off the area and wait to mow until it reaches optimal height.

Aerate during the growing season, typically in spring or fall, when grass can quickly recover.

No, it's not a good idea to put grass seed directly on top of dead grass. For successful germination and growth, grass seed needs good soil contact. To prepare the area, start by removing the dead grass using a shovel or a sod cutter. Then, loosen the soil, add soil amendments if necessary, and spread the grass seed evenly. This allows the seed to come into direct contact with the soil, promoting better germination and establishing a healthier lawn.
