"Carl, Garrett and the entire team did an amazing job paving our front entryway as well as adding decorative stone to the side of our house. The whole process was quick, stress free and the end result completely transformed the look of our house. Everyone who walks by comments on how great it looks! I 100% recommend!"

Customers say: True professional

"Arthur gave us a fair and competitive estimate and was able to start work quickly thereafter. He and his team did an excellent job gutting and totally remodeling two bathrooms and a closet as well as redoing some of the wood flooring, moving vents, and moving hallways. Arthur himself was at the home everyday and did the important work himself. He also went the extra mile in helping us with small projects around the major project as they came up. He was extremely responsive in provided us with timely updates. When complications occurred (due to the house having not been renovated in 40 years) he was clear and helpful in keeping the project on schedule. He was extremely honest and I trusted him to be alone in my house for weeks on end with his team. I would/plan to work with Arthur again in the future for my home renovation projects."

"I had an incredible experience working with Icon Architecture on my home expansion and renovation. From start to finish, the process was seamless and timely. The team really took the time to understand my vision, and they executed it beautifully—delivering a result that exceeded my expectations. Their professionalism, clear communication, and attention to detail made the entire renovation stress-free. It’s rare to find a firm that not only delivers on time but also brings such creativity and dedication to truly bringing a homeowner’s vision to life. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome and highly recommend Icon Architecture to anyone considering a renovation or expansion project."

"Jade Kitchens designed and remodeled my kitchen and installed the flooring in the rest of my living areas. They were professional, kept on budget and schedule and helped me visualize my new space by designing it on the computer. The products I bought from them were top quality. I am recommending them to all of my neighbors."

Architects questions, answered by experts

A home elevator is a fantastic way to improve your home’s accessibility. Elevators allow anyone, even those who use wheelchairs or walkers, to safely move between floors within your home.

Dumbwaiters may allow you to move items up and down floors, and stair lifts can move people up and down, but elevators are the best option if you need space for people, their belongings, and/or mobility aids such as wheelchairs.

That said, home elevators cost more than other options, such as stair lifts. Consider your needs and your budget when deciding the best way to make your home more accessible to a person with a disability or a person who is aging in place.

You should have an architect involved in your project from the very beginning. They’ll be able to direct your vision into workable plans, and they can advise you on potential problems right from the start. You may be able to save money by not using an architect, but larger projects will go much more smoothly with an experienced pro directing the process.

As with most large-scale home renovation projects, you’ll need an architect to map out the exact layout and specs of your above-garage room, which is required in many municipalities. Some general contractors will serve as your architect, or they may bring on a residential architect to assist with the plans.

In most cases, you should hire a draftsperson for simpler projects like minor home renovations, and you should hire an architect for new construction, structural changes to your home, and large home add-ons. If you’re working on a larger project that demands an architect or structural engineer, your professional will often have a draftsperson on staff and include their services in your estimate.

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.
