"They performed appropriate tests on my softened and filtered water before doing any work. No major repairs were needed, only targeted maintenance was needed. They were thed only water filtration rane changes from this point forward. Finding these folks is loke hitting a home run.company that offered a service to deliver salt to us, carry the salt to our basement, then install the heavy salt into our salt bin. And their price for doing that is more than fair. We will be having them provide routine maintenance & filter/membrane replacement."

"Project is still continuing, and progress has been outstanding. They do much more than plumbing! Our project is renovation of 2 rooms. Work includes demolition, insulation, drywall, trim work, electrical, and plumbing. We are so impressed with the entire team. We now have contracted for a whole house water treatment system!"

"My only complaint is that i don't think they figure the proper amunt of salt for ur use and i have to call them back when i discover how low we are and they are supposed to keep control of that. I don't think they do a good enough job at that. I do like the equipment and the service people and they load up my machine for me as i am unable to do so."

"I hired Basset Plumbing to install a Furnace, central air conditioner and a Navian on demand hot water heater. They communicated very well through the whole process. Did outstanding work and cleaned up after themselves as they progressed. I highly recommend them for all your plumbing and heating needs!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install a water softener, including the system and labor, is approximately $1,500. However, the total price can range widely from $600 to $6,000. For some complete systems, the cost may be between $800 and $2,500. Labor for the installation typically costs between $150 and $1,000.

The final price is influenced by several factors, including:

  • System type, capacity, and complexity

  • Home size and household water demands

  • Water hardness levels

  • Accessibility of the installation site and the extent of plumbing work required

  • Whether new electrical work is needed

  • The professional hired and any local permit costs

The main difference between a water softener and a water filter is what they remove from the water. A water softener is specifically designed to remove hard minerals, while a filter removes a wider range of contaminants above a certain size, such as bacteria and other impurities. If your primary goal is to remove minerals, a softener is the best choice. If you want to remove various contaminants for safety or taste, a filter is more suitable. Filters are also typically less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply's specific issues, you may need to install both systems for comprehensive treatment.

Hard water isn’t necessarily bad for you. In some ways, it’s good for you. If you’re deficient in magnesium or calcium, hard water can give you a mineral boost that you wouldn’t get with soft water. However, this is where the benefits of hard water pretty much stop. Hard water can cause many minor inconveniences and lead to costly, premature replacements of your water-using appliances.

A water softener removes minerals from your drinking water and can make your house water softer. These softeners are designed to extend the lifetime of your plumbing system while also making water safer and more palatable for drinking. Hard water, which is water with a heavy amount of suspended particles, can also cause hair damage, skin irritation, and buildup in your pipes.

Installing a water softener could help reduce calcium buildup in your pool if your pool has high calcium hardness as a result of hard drinking water in your home. Pool softeners work by exchanging calcium and magnesium for sodium, so if you use softened water to top off your pool, it may help keep calcium hardness from rising over time. However, it won’t lower the calcium hardness of the water already in your pool and isn’t a practical way to control pool calcium levels. The average water softener installation cost is between $200 and $6,000.
