"I received estimates from three different tree services for the removal of a dead Tulip Tree that didn't make it through the winter and an Elm that had dutch elm disease.   By far the most knowledgeable and most reasonable was Emerald Tree Service.  They do it by the book and we needed to get permits for removal of the dead tress, as is the code for my town.  However, they contacted the town for us and the town sent the permits to my attention.   It took 5 weeks before the job was able to be done due to scheduling and vacations, but it was worth it.   The crew arrived in clean trucks with all the proper equipment, they worked in an efficient and professional manner.   Safety was definitely important to them.  They ground down the stump  for the Tulip and I hardly know there was a 5 story high tree there once.

"RJR understood the project and what we were looking to accomplish. Rosalio did a thorough walk through with me. He knew the situation we were in with the Spotted Lantern Flies that were feeding on the Athlantus trees in our yard. He made great suggestions from an arborist perspective and worked out a fair estimate for all the different aspects of the job. RJR and crew went right to work immediately and didnâ t stop. They work fast and are completely careful and respectful of the property. The clean up was like nothing took place that day. Every scrap of wood, leaves and branches were removed. I highly recommend RJR for projects that need a specific consideration."

"Edwin and his crew did an amazing job cleaning my backyard. They were on time, professional, and worked quickly but carefully. The yard was a mess before, but they left it spotless and organized. They took care of everything from clearing debris to making sure everything looked neat. I really appreciated how respectful and friendly they were throughout the process. I would definitely recommend Edwin and his team to anyone looking for reliable, thorough backyard cleaning."

"Mark from SavATree came to assess the damage caused by a severe windstorm and determined that it was best to cut the whole tree down as it posed a danger to us and our property. The workers who cut the tree down put in a long day - 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. They were wonderful and clean and neat and did a very professional job. Their job was even more difficult because they had to cut the tree down piece by piece and then either bring it through my house (as we are all attached) or go up on my flat roof and throw it over the roof to their truck in my driveway. They were so efficient and good that I do not hesitate to recommend them highly."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

The depth of tree roots depends on the species. Trees like oaks and maples can have root systems that grow down 20 feet or more. However, trees that grow in shallow soils will have roots that go only a few feet down. Research how your tree species grows in your climate area to estimate root depth.

Using vinegar to kill tree roots is just one of the clever ways to use vinegar around the house. The method works best when you apply vinegar as directly to the root system as possible. For example, if the old tree roots and stump are currently exposed, drill holes in the tops of the roots and pour undiluted white vinegar into the holes to soak into the plant. Remember that vinegar can kill the surrounding grass and plants should it pour over the edge.

It’s possible, although a lot depends on the cause of damage and what steps you take. If the remaining parts of the maple tree are alive and not under attack by disease or pests, they can often be saved even if large portions of the maple tree have died. Frequent watering, careful pruning, mulch, and any recommended fungicides or insecticides can all help with survival.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.
