"Prompt and professional service. Job was done just as we had explained to the contractor. After job was complete, they did an amazing job of cleaning up, wouldn't even know they had cut three trees for us. Would definitely hire again."

"RJR understood the project and what we were looking to accomplish. Rosalio did a thorough walk through with me. He knew the situation we were in with the Spotted Lantern Flies that were feeding on the Athlantus trees in our yard. He made great suggestions from an arborist perspective and worked out a fair estimate for all the different aspects of the job. RJR and crew went right to work immediately and didnâ t stop. They work fast and are completely careful and respectful of the property. The clean up was like nothing took place that day. Every scrap of wood, leaves and branches were removed. I highly recommend RJR for projects that need a specific consideration."

"The SavaTree team was really fantastic, from start to finish! Ross was really helpful in evaluating our trees and suggesting treatments, and was on site multiple times on the day of tree removal. Ours was particularly tricky as we're in a townhouse, and the tree had to removed from our back garden through the house. Johnny, Manny and Jose were a great team, really efficient and very neat, cleaning up our basement once they had completed the tree removal. We'll absolutely work with them again soon!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Licensing requirements for arborists, also known as tree surgeons, vary by state and municipality. Many areas require a license, which often involves specialized education and experience. Even if not mandated, it's wise to hire a licensed professional as they tend to have more experience. Beyond licensing, look for certifications from organizations like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), as this indicates a higher level of expertise. Certified arborists must typically pass a comprehensive exam. Always confirm that the arborist has a business license and is fully insured to protect yourself from liability. Seeking positive recommendations from local homeowners is also a good step in finding a qualified professional.

Yes, the same rules discussed above apply to your neighbor: They can trim one of your trees as long as they’re only cutting the portion that extends into their property. Your neighbor is not allowed to access your property without permission, nor can they cut past the property line.

Dead tree branches should be removed, because they can cause the tree to lose nutrients. They can also make the tree more susceptible to disease and pests. Removing dead and diseased branches can help the tree recover and increase the odds of saving a dying tree. Make sure to prune the tree correctly to avoid damaging it further.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

The typical lifespan of a Bradford pear is relatively short, only 15 to 25 years. However, these trees have issues long before their life is over. Due to their soft wood and fast-growing branches, Bradford pear trees often split around 15 years, making them a risk for falling branches and more prone to disease.
