Ceiling-mounted curtains won’t damage the ceiling if they’re installed properly. Heat can help plaster dry faster, but it's very easy to get too much of a good thing. While it’s most common to sand plaster dry, it is possible to wet-sand plaster, too. However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.

There are several warning signs that a ceiling crack is connected to a larger issue. For starters, if the crack is wider than 1/8 inch or longer than 12 inches, you might have a more serious problem. The same applies if you have multiple smaller cracks or cracks going across the ceiling and down the wall. In any of these situations, you should ask a professional to assess the damage.
