"AI Masonry did an outstanding job on our front steps and walkway. Paul and his crew were so easy to work with , were professional and answered all our questions and made excellent recommendations . We actually requested a few more areas to be repaired based on their input. We will definitely recommend this excellent company to our friends and neighbors. Thank you AI Masonry."

"TruNorth was an excellent hire for our deck. they were professional and took care of all the permits and paperwork. They kept to their word on time frame and cost despite the "weather". The deck is beautiful, well designed and obviously done by tradesmen who know what they are doing. I would hire and recommend them to everyone! Nice Job TruNorth looking forward to enjoying our new deck this summer!"

"James installed concrete steps off the back of our garage over 20 years ago. We were so impressed with his work ethic and excellent job, we just had to hire him again. We needed a large concrete slab for a hot tub. James went above and beyond to make sure everything was done right. He is a very hard worker that will make sure the project is done exactly the way it should be."

"Took 3 visits but was well worth the time, attention and patience to get the job done right. First day was inspection and quote for repairs/materials. Work started that day to patch the cement crown that was cracked and channeling water down one side of the chimney eroding bricks. A bowed metal plate on the chimney to shed water between the two flue caps was flattened and sealed with cement so it did not show from the ground and so flies would stop entering into the house thru one of the flues. Crumbling mortar was replaced between bricks and bricks were waterproofed. The chimney was measured and the cap to cover the entire chimney was ordered. The 2nd visit got rained out. The 3rd visit was a good weather day and the cap was assembled, installed and cemented in place. It is amazing how strong the animal guard around the 4 sides of the chimney is. The crew at all times was friendly, courteous & very competent being careful to do the entire project as if it was their home."

Small jobs welcome

"Colin came over and gave me the estimate in person. He explained every detail as to what he was going to do and the time frame. He was spot on and even completed the job ahead of schedule working through the night , weekends , and inclement weather conditions. I could ask for anything more and have recommended him to friends , family , relatives and neighbors. Our house was a new build and he made it look the best in the entire track!"

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

Ensure you have a safe environment for them to work on, and there aren’t items such as logs, build-up of yard materials, missing or damaged shingles, and weak areas on the roof. Communicate any known electrical issues with contractors at the beginning of the project, and consider hiring an electrician to fix those. Finally, if you are attempting the project yourself, do so when there isn’t any rain, and you can safely get your footing on the roof using proper equipment, such as an extension ladder. Don’t attempt this alone, and have a helper nearby to assist.

In some cases, you can use a fireplace once the insert has been removed. However, before burning a fire, you must have a professional inspect it and the chimney to make sure they're functioning properly and no damage has occurred from removing the insert. That’s because using a fireplace without an insert could create fire hazards due to issues with airflow and heat dispersion, depending on the fireplace design and material. A professional can advise on whether you should make certain repairs or modifications before using your fireplace as an open hearth.

Yes, an electrical fire can start even if nothing is plugged into an outlet. While a correctly functioning outlet poses no risk, a fire can be caused by faulty wiring, damaged outlet components, an overloaded circuit, or other electrical problems hidden behind the walls. If you suspect a fault, immediately turn off the circuit breaker and contact a professional electrician to diagnose and repair the issue.

No, it is not safe to use an outlet that sparked. A spark from an outlet could indicate a short circuit, loose or frayed wiring, or other serious damage. Continuing to use an outlet that sparks can increase the risk of electrical shock, electrical fires, and other hazards. It's important to turn off the power to the outlet at the circuit breaker if possible and avoid using the outlet until a licensed electrician has inspected and repaired it.

Yes, you need to leave your chimney damper open when burning a creosote log so that smoke and other debris doesn’t waft into your house as it’s burning. You’ll need to make sure your damper is fully open, even when the log continues to smoke, until it’s completely out and cold.
