"I needed emergency repairs to the outside of my brick house. The estimate from R&R was the most reasonable (most other masonry contractors refused to come out in the middle of winter or their estimates were outrageous). R&R wes able to start the work immediately and completed the work quickly. The crew was very pleasant and professional, and cleaned up after the work was done. Very pleased customer!"

"Other companies quoted me much higher rates and one completely failed to get the job done. MMT were complete professionals, a pleasure to deal with, prompt, and skilled. Iâ ll be relying on them for all chimney and masonry projects and would recommend them to anyone."

"What a great team I had. First Jim on electrical was terrific two new outlets each on their own circuit installed, very neat and professionally done. Next came the installation crew of Tim and Dan, these two are machines. They got right to work trenching the perimeter and then installing the drainage channel. Start to finish job completed in roughly six hours. Job site was left cleaner than I expected when dealing with concrete dust. Won’t know how it all works until water table rises but very impressed with the quality of the work and the people doing it. Thanks to all of you again."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Surviving the heavy freeze-thaw cycles in Latham dictates the longevity of your masonry work. Contractors must use weather-resistant materials and historically accurate mortar mixes for older homes. Proper drainage, through-wall flashing, and weep holes prevent water damage. Furthermore, foundations must extend below the 48-inch NY frost line to prevent shifting. Always schedule installations between May and October when temperatures stay consistently above 40 degrees for proper mortar curing.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Latham request chimney rebuilding to update older properties with decorative caps. Hudson Valley bluestone patios, walkways, and steps remain highly sought after for their durability and regional appeal. Outdoor living spaces featuring fire pits and low retaining walls are also common. Additionally, traditional brick detailing and practical foundation parging are popular choices to protect homes against heavy snowmelt and wet spring weather.

Helpful?

You have several excellent green options for masonry work in your area. Use insulated masonry wall systems to meet New York state energy codes and keep your home warm. Choose regionally quarried Hudson Valley bluestone or Adirondack granite to reduce transportation emissions. Reclaimed brick from nearby architectural salvage markets also provides a climatically proven, eco-friendly choice. Finally, install permeable paving for your driveway to manage stormwater runoff effectively.

Helpful?

Watch for flaking brick faces or white salt deposits after the spring snowmelt. You should also check for mortar joints receding more than a quarter-inch deep. Look for stair-step cracks, leaning chimneys, or bowing retaining walls, which occur due to frost heave in Latham. Since many local homes are over 50 years old, repointing is necessary. Schedule an inspection in April or May after the winter freeze-thaw cycles end.

Helpful?

Proper maintenance for masonry work starts with a spring inspection for cracking, flaking, or white salt stains. During the summer, apply a penetrating sealer every three to five years and handle any necessary repointing. Always schedule an annual chimney inspection in the fall before the heating season begins. Throughout the New York winter, avoid using rock salt on your masonry surfaces and use sand instead to prevent severe damage.
