"Undaunted removed asbestos siding and contracted to install new siding thereafter. The entire process took a week. The crews were unfailingly professional and attentive, offering to install a light fixture and repair a porch post free of charge. Excellent company."

Small jobs welcome

"After spending a few days comparing rates, I realized that no other company could beat Elite's. I ended up hiring them for a small asbestos removal project, and they completed the work exactly as I hoped they would. Would certainly work with them again."

"I hired GCU Environmental to remove and dispose of asbestos covering our steam pipes. They also re-insulated the pipes with fiberglass coverings. I couldn’t be happier with their work. They showed up as promised and completed the job on time and as promised. The air quality was continually monitored throughout the project and all asbestos was disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner. GCU work quality was terrific. I would definitely recommend them."

"AVI did a great job removing the asbestos. They were very clean. A problem created was that one of the steam pipes which had the asbestos wrapping removed, opened at a seam and began to leak water very regularly. They did show this to me but said the leak was already there. This would not be true or I would have had water on my floor and stains on the wrapping prior to the removal. There is a lot of grinding that is done to remove the asbestos from the pipe surface. This was likely the cause of this leak. I had to have the pipe changed at another cost to me of $700. They did not take any responsibility for the leak. That is why I would hesitate to recommend them."

"Don and his entire crew at G-Tech were amazing. They are honest, hardworking, qualified, and all around a great team. They worked fast and tirelessly until our job was complete. We had and entire basement that was destroyed by water and toxic mold. They moved, cleaned, and restored the entire basement. They were also able to restore and save priceless positions that we thought were lost forever in the flood. Over 40 years of a family of 9 children and 2 adults possessions were handled by the crew meticulously. Everything from clothes to fine China was handled with care and respect. Don made the entire daunting task of trying to put our life back together easy. He handled all the paperwork arranged the schedule for the work and made each step of the process easy. The entire crew not only showed up on time but early each day to work. They were not only kind with myself and my husband but they were wonderful to each one of my 9 children. They considered each one of our safety and made sure they took every precaution before, during and after the work. This is especially important our family because my son has a chronic lung condition that was being exacerbated by the mold condition. Don returned every phone call and every text that was sent to him immediately regardless of the time day or even weekend. I would highly recommend this company to anybody that is looking for a company that will treat your possessions as their own. I can not thank them enough for not only restoring my home to better than it was before the incident but also saving 40 years of possessions and memories. Great job guys!"

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

It is possible to repair an asbestos roof if the damage is minor. However, it is crucial to follow proper safety procedures and regulations while doing so. It’s always recommended to hire a professional asbestos roofing contractor who specializes in asbestos roof repairs to ensure the work is done safely and correctly.

Typically, homeowners insurance does not cover asbestos removal or abatement. Most policies exclude coverage for pollutants, contaminants, and hazardous materials, which includes asbestos. Because asbestos is often considered a pre-existing condition in older homes, its removal is usually viewed as a maintenance expense rather than an insurable loss. However, there is a key exception: if asbestos-containing materials are discovered or disturbed due to a covered event, such as a fire or storm, your policy may cover the abatement as part of the necessary repairs. For example, if a storm damages your roof and an insurance adjuster discovers asbestos while inspecting the damage, the policy might pay for the removal cost. If removal is not covered and is outside your budget, you might consider encapsulating the asbestos. The viability of this option depends on the condition of the contaminated materials. It is recommended to speak with an asbestos abatement specialist to understand your options.

Asbestos encapsulation is an alternative to asbestos abatement or removal. Suppose you have hired an asbestos testing service and they recommend encapsulation. In that case, they will cover the asbestos with a protective barrier or put it in a sealed enclosure so the fibers cannot escape. Encapsulation usually costs between $2 and $6 per square foot.

No, but it’s common that they do. Gravity furnaces weren’t terribly efficient so wrapping either the ductwork in asbestos, the furnace itself, or both, was something done regularly. This allowed the system to retain more heat. At the time, this greatly enhanced the efficiency of the furnaces but it wasn’t until later that we became aware of just how carcinogenic and dangerous asbestos could be.
