"I hired a pro to fix my heating issue and the tech came 2 days and couldn't resolve the issue . Charged me $100 day one for the visit and charged me $165 day two for a part that was replaced which was working fine. The issue was not with that part and pro replaced it with no reason. Spend couple of hours day two without any resolution . Today I hired a licensed installed and he came and fix the problem within 3 hrs . I wasted 2 half day of my time and also $365"

Wood Stove Inspection questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should seal an unused chimney. Even if it’s not in use, the structure is still susceptible to moisture damage, which can lead to problems like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. But you should also cap the chimney to prevent blockages while still allowing for air ventilation (which also prevents moisture damage). Also, continue to get an annual chimney inspection to prevent other issues with the structure.

Depending on stove type and condition, costs range from $150 to $300.

The cost difference between a gas fireplace and a wood-burning fireplace depends on the type of wood-burning fireplace installed. The cost to install a gas fireplace tends to be cheaper than the cost to install a brick wood-burning fireplace. Installing a gas fireplace costs about $3,600 on average, whereas the cost to build a masonry wood-burning fireplace can go up to $30,000. The cost to install a wood-burning fireplace insert or stove can cost from $700 to $6,500, about the same as a gas fireplace on average.

Fireplaces can last between 10 and 30 years on average. This life span heavily depends on the quality of the construction, the type of fireplace (wood-burning versus gas versus electric), the materials used, and how well you’ve maintained it. Most homeowners get around 20 years out of their fireplace before major issues start popping up.

In most cases, you should not put a TV on a fireplace mantel. The minimum width required to put a TV safely on a shelf or mantel is 10 inches, but pre-made mantels are usually too shallow, averaging at only seven inches deep. If you do choose to place a TV above a mantel, it should be mounted to the wall. However, do so cautiously as heat radiating from the fireplace could potentially cause damage to electronics.
