Major Homes CorpI purchased my home a few years ago and high on the list of necessary upgrades was the siding. I've done a lot of DIY projects on my own in recent years to tighten up the house including crawl space encapsulation and converting my attic into a conditioned space. I thoroughly researched different aspects of insulated vinyl siding so I was prepared to have an educated conversation with the four contractors that I met for the job. I have to say that Carl from major homes by far was the most knowledgeable about the project and offered the best products at a fair price. He was personable and patient and at no point did he try pressure or rush me. He did a complete assessment of the project with measurements and drawings and a detailed breakdown of everything the job entailed. He also returned to my house to show me more samples of sidings that needed to be special ordered. Based on the reviews on Angie's list and the treatment my wife and I received from Carl, I was confident that I picked the right company for the job. The end result did not disappoint. Al, the project manager was very attentive and Fernando and his crew were absolutely superb. It was a four man crew who worked for five days to get the job done right. My family and neighbors were wowed by the new appearance of my home. More importantly for me, the temperature and humidity sensors that I have located all around the home indicate to me that this project is going to save me money down the road with my heating and cooling costs. I will not hesitate to hire Major Homes for a job in the future.- Jose F.

Major Homes CorpWe hired Major Homes to replace most of the windows in our house. I am happy with every aspect of my interaction with them. Jason, the person who gave us the quote and described the windows was prompt, clear, obviously very knowledgeable (I think he said his father started the company, but I could be mis-remembering that) and did *not* try a very heavy sales pitch on us. There was no issue at all when we said we'd get back to him at a later date about our decision (unlike other estimates we got). He just offered us a reasonable price on high-quality window replacements. After starting, the job was done quickly and done really well. The work crew was courteous and professional and they cleaned up after themselves really well. They noted places where the wood around the window was rotting and replaced that for us at a reasonable cost. The only thing we are left with are beautiful and beautifully installed windows. I am just so happy with these windows. I knew new windows would look better and be more energy efficient, but I didn't realize just *how much* better they would look. We are now scheduling a time when they can do the remaining windows in the house. I wish I could hire this company for all of my home-improvement needs.- Sylvia S.

Choice Home WarrantyAs I was filling out the application on the website my phone rang and it was an operator from CHW asking if I had any questions!?! She was very helpful and very upfront. She gave me a quote and told me that my service fee would be $85 and my Total plan would be $528 because I was a senior. BUT, when I got the first email confirming my membership I see the site offers a $75 service fee. Naturally, I wondered why was I given the $10 higher price? I put in a missive to the company to find out why. Hopefully, they will be honorable and not play games.- Bob A.

Universe Home ServicesSince this was an emergency (we were concerned that the pipe might crack with no support) we went with Universe as that was the first company we contacted. The service manager (Tommy) sent over a tech (Nick) within 2 hours. Nick proceeded to remove 20ft of old pipe and replaced with new PVC and new support straps. The job took about 5 hours including the assessment and cleanup. The service was performed very professionally. We did pay $2,700, which we feel was a quite high for 5 hours of work. But, since we didn't get competing bids we can't complain.- Richard L.

Appliance MasterDonny arrived right on time, both visits. He assessed the problem quickly and returned within about a week with the new part. Repair was accomplished very quickly and the oven has been working great since the repair at the end of Dec. 2020. Donny and his assistant were both very nice and totally professional. Buyer beware!!! They charge you $249 service fee to show up after 5pm and when they arrive they tell you the tech support for your manufacturer is not available until business hours the next business day. They return the next business day to tell you the part needed is not in stock and it will take a few days to arrive. Who has 2-3 days to wait at 30-35 degrees with no heat or hot water???? I went to a local plumbing supply company and brought the required part sealed in a box from the manufacturer, but Universe refused to install. I advised I would take responsibility for the part, they still refused to install leaving me with no heat... (maybe because there is no markup available when customer supplies the part?....I offered to pay a markup just to get heat in the house, they still refused). They claimed the job would cost $1,500. The required part was $75. Check out Sullivan Plumbing and Heating in Massapequa. They did the same job with my part for 20% of the price quoted by Universe Home Services. Mr. Sullivan is an honest plumber who does great work.

I haven't used the appliance in the six years since my wife passed away, but when I looked inside one day, I found an inch of standing water in it. Long story short, the repairman found the intake valve was leaking, and since I no longer have need for the dishwasher, he went to the basement and found the appropriate shutoff valve, came up, spun out the standing water, and all's well. You might say that he didn't fix the dishwasher. He didn't. He fixed the problem. IL don't worry about harboring a mold factory, and go on cleaning my few dishes the old fashioned way.

I went ahead to repair the problem by purchasing a new heating element.
