"From the first quote to the final walkthrough, everything was professional and straightforward. The owner, Joe Haumann, listened carefully to what I wanted, provided clear options, and gave a fair, detailed estimate with no hidden surprises. The crew showed up on time every day, worked efficiently, and treated my property with real respect—keeping the site clean and minimizing any disruption. Their craftsmanship is top-notch: the brick and stone work is precise, beautiful, and built to last. You can tell they take pride in what they do. They finished the project right on schedule, communicated clearly throughout, and even handled a couple of small adjustments without any hassle or extra cost. If you’re looking for reliable, skilled masons who deliver high-quality results and great customer service, I highly recommend Brick-Tec. I’ll definitely be calling them again for any future work! Thanks again to the whole team—you guys rock!"

"Excellent job !! We are so pleased with the guidance and design for the landscaping to our home. Mike was very nice and respectful and had a lot of great ideas for us to consider from what plants and shrubs to the design itself. He got back to us quickly and we will be hiring him again in 2026!"

"Erie Homes was great. Ty and Chris shared the information about roofs in a clear and precise way. I love the high quality of the roofing materials and the standards they hold their workers to when placing the roof. Mike called me each step of the way, so I was prepared when the roofing supplies showed up. I even got calls after the beautiful roof was done. Amazing job!"

"We acquired a vacant lot next door to us, and had it cleared. However, land contours caused a couple of living-room sized ponds to appear after heavy rains. I anticipated having a drainage ditch dug and stone filled to drain the water away. Ground Tech owner Kevin Cummin looked the situation over, and suggested resloping the land would drain away the water and leave the land more intact and usable. It would also be less expensive. He did an excellent job of re-contouring the land, added top soil, and raked in grass seed. He held off the top soil for a rainy day (1 day), to make sure the drainage was correct, and one more day so the mud exposed by re-contouring could dry a bit. While on the job, I asked him for a quote on two other improvement jobs (lining a shoreline with gabian stones, and removing stump grindings). The quotes were very reasonable, and I am extremely satisfied with the results and appearance of his work. He told me when he would be on site, and was here at those times. The work was done as soon as feasible (weather controls a lot of outdoor work). The price quoted was agreed to, and there was no attempt haggle upward as has happened with some others. He planned the progress of the job very well. And the man is a master at using the small backhoe and Bobcat machines needed for my work. Honest work for an honest price! I am well pleased."

"I needed stucco repair work on an old chimney (and other spots). Grady was meticulous and thoughtful on what approaches and materials would work. Throughout the project they allocated sufficient time for each treatment to cure and inspected the work before proceeding to the next step. Grady started the project with no money down and only required ongoing payments for materials until the project was well underway. The final payment was due only after they did a final inspection. Total project cost was also below other bids."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

While painting can certainly change the look of a chimney, you should think twice about giving your brick chimney the old landlord special.

Painting brick is porous, meaning it’s full of tiny holes that can soak up moisture. Those holes also allow it to dry, though. So, when you paint it, you trap any moisture inside, providing an opportunity for mold, mildew, and water damage.

Paint also shows wear faster than naked brick. This means that once you paint a brick surface, you’ll have to keep painting it to maintain a clean look. A paint job is also harder to undo on brick because of its porous nature. Once you paint it, it’s hard to go back without some serious power washing—another added cost.

This is largely dependent on the size and hardness of the rock, but a range of tools might work, including hammers, chisels, rock hammers, sledge hammers, and more. You'll need a jackhammer for the very biggest rock-breaking jobs.

Professionally done brick repointing can last 20 to 30 years, sometimes longer. However, the exact lifespan depends on several factors, including the quality of the mortar, the skill of the mason, and exposure to weather. If you live in an area with harsh weather or frequent freeze-thaw cycles, you may need to repoint more often. Repointing that is done as a DIY project may only last 10 to 15 years. It's time to repoint when you notice signs of mortar failure, such as crumbling or missing mortar, holes, or vines growing between the bricks. Regular inspections can help you catch these issues early.

The exact cost of bricks depends on the type and size of the bricks you use for your project. Generally, standard clay bricks cost between $350 and $850 for a thousand bricks, or an average of $550. Brick veneer costs around the same for materials but is easier to install than solid bricks, so you’ll save on labor by choosing this option.

The cost to install or replace brick or stone siding generally ranges from $10 to $50 per square foot. The final price depends on several factors, including the specific material type, local labor rates, and any necessary preparation work, such as removing old siding. For example, different types of stone have varying costs per square foot: natural stone ($4.50–$35), stone veneer ($11–$13), faux stone ($6–$9), and cultured or manufactured stone ($5–$8).
