"Luigi and his team did an incredible job replacing my front steps and all the concrete/masonry around the front of my home. It was easy to communicate with Luigi in order to figure out exactly what we wanted, and the execution of everything was flawless. I highly recommend Luigi for any brick masonry you'd need done on your home."

"Classical Pavers did a beautiful job replacing my front walkway! It was not a straightforward project because it was built on a steep slope with a curve. The owner Thiago, who oversees the project, was a pleasure to work with -- never used any pressure tactics, was very responsive to any questions, and gave a fair price. The two craftsmen who did the work were amazing! They arrived promptly every day, worked extremely hard, and did absolutely beautiful work. They hauled away all the old materials and tidied everything up when the job was done. We definitely would hire them again for a future project and highly recommend them."

"We hired JB to put in a short driveway and repair some broken concrete in front of our garage. It was a joint project with the next door neighbors, who also needed their bluestone sidewalk replaced with concrete in order to make a workable driveway. I asked if I could have the salvaged bluestone. JB took care of the city permits, and the workers were there at 8 AM, prying up bluestone and piling it neatly in my back yard. The driveway looks great."

"Richie and his crew did a great job, working quickly and efficiently. It took them only about half a day to take apart the old stoop, and build a new one using brick, cement, and large stone/cement slabs. They came on time, cleaned up after themselves, were friendly and polite, and created a very attractive front stoop for my mom. We got the kind of service and final product that we hoped for, and at a very fair price. We also received a 5 year warranty on the workmanship. We'd use Mr. Brickman again."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Repairing existing structures is highly cost-effective for masonry work in Flushing. Repointing deteriorated mortar joints extends wall life by decades and preserves the historic character of older brick rowhouses. Full replacement becomes mandatory only when bricks lose their protective outer layer, foundations fail structurally, or parapet walls experience severe separation. Address minor repairs promptly to avoid the extensive labor required for full structural replacements.

Helpful?

Address unstable parapets, active water leaks, and deteriorating bricks near structural supports immediately to ensure safety. These hazardous conditions worsen quickly during freezing weather. You can safely delay cosmetic issues like minor surface staining or shallow mortar erosion. Schedule non-emergency masonry work between late spring and early fall to guarantee proper mortar curing in the NY climate. Always prioritize structural safety over cosmetic upgrades.

Helpful?

Start by securing necessary building board approvals and alteration agreements, especially in co-ops and condos. Structural changes for marble and granite service require a Department of Buildings permit. Plan for material delivery by arranging parking suspensions on narrow local streets. New York City regulations mandate strict dust, debris, and wastewater disposal protocols. Schedule work outside of deep winter months so cold temperatures do not interfere with adhesive curing times.

Helpful?

Proper maintenance for masonry work involves annual spring inspections to spot cracked bricks or displaced stones caused by freezing weather. Repoint mortar joints every few decades to prevent severe erosion. Inspect chimney crowns regularly to block water entry. Clean off white mineral staining caused by local humidity and flooding. Reapply penetrating sealants every few years to protect retaining walls from the high NY water table.

Helpful?

Visible cracking on exterior stoops after a harsh winter indicates immediate repair needs. Inside, check for loose stones or white mineral deposits caused by past flooding. Dulling and surface scratching in high-traffic kitchens also signal it is time for marble and granite service. Spring is the optimal season in NY to schedule this work. Initiate your building board alteration agreements at least two months before your desired start date.
