"Luigi and his team did an incredible job replacing my front steps and all the concrete/masonry around the front of my home. It was easy to communicate with Luigi in order to figure out exactly what we wanted, and the execution of everything was flawless. I highly recommend Luigi for any brick masonry you'd need done on your home."

"Thiago and his crew were absolutely amazing. From the first meeting through completion Thiago was a professional and a gentleman. Gave great suggestions and was open to our ideas as well. His quote was substantially lower than others we received and the work was top notch. His crew started when he said they would and did not miss a day until the job was complete. We are completely satisfied and would highly recommend Classical Pavers. I can confirm that all the positive reviews his company receives online are accurate. Thanks Thiago!"

"We hired JB to put in a short driveway and repair some broken concrete in front of our garage. It was a joint project with the next door neighbors, who also needed their bluestone sidewalk replaced with concrete in order to make a workable driveway. I asked if I could have the salvaged bluestone. JB took care of the city permits, and the workers were there at 8 AM, prying up bluestone and piling it neatly in my back yard. The driveway looks great."

"Thank you so much for the great job you and your company has done in replacing the walkway on the side of my house. The job was completed on time, quickly, efficiently and neatly. Due to the new walkway the basement did not leak after the recent rain. I will be using Red Brick Masonry, Inc again."

"Richie and his crew did a great job, working quickly and efficiently. It took them only about half a day to take apart the old stoop, and build a new one using brick, cement, and large stone/cement slabs. They came on time, cleaned up after themselves, were friendly and polite, and created a very attractive front stoop for my mom. We got the kind of service and final product that we hoped for, and at a very fair price. We also received a 5 year warranty on the workmanship. We'd use Mr. Brickman again."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A frequent mistake during masonry work is applying mortar in freezing weather, causing it to fail prematurely. Flushing homeowners also overlook drainage issues, leading to water damage at foundations. Using modern, hard cement on older, soft brick homes traps moisture and causes severe damage. Always use period-appropriate, softer mortar for historic properties. Finally, skipping necessary permits creates serious legal and structural complications for your property.

Helpful?

Proper maintenance for masonry work involves annual spring inspections to spot cracked bricks or displaced stones caused by freezing weather. Repoint mortar joints every few decades to prevent severe erosion. Inspect chimney crowns regularly to block water entry. Clean off white mineral staining caused by local humidity and flooding. Reapply penetrating sealants every few years to protect retaining walls from the high NY water table.

Helpful?

High foot traffic in multi-generational homes accelerates wear on softer stones. NY experiences severe freeze-thaw cycles that damage exterior entryways, so select climate-rated materials for outdoor marble and granite service. High summer humidity extends indoor curing times in older homes lacking central air conditioning. Additionally, soft, slightly acidic local tap water combined with harsh household cleaners will etch stone surfaces over time. Use gentle cleaning products to protect your investment.

Helpful?

Start by securing necessary building board approvals and alteration agreements, especially in co-ops and condos. Structural changes for marble and granite service require a Department of Buildings permit. Plan for material delivery by arranging parking suspensions on narrow local streets. New York City regulations mandate strict dust, debris, and wastewater disposal protocols. Schedule work outside of deep winter months so cold temperatures do not interfere with adhesive curing times.

Helpful?

Combining marble and granite service with plumbing or electrical upgrades is highly efficient. Flushing building boards strictly limit active renovation periods, making bundled projects ideal. Older homes hide outdated galvanized pipes or damaged drain lines that require replacement once floors open up. If you live in a flood-prone zone, pair your stone installation with subfloor waterproofing. Consolidating trades also minimizes neighborhood disruptions and streamlines mandatory municipal inspections.
