"Rob, Alonzo, and Harvey came to replace the single wall liner in my chimney with a double wall liner. Rob was very thorough in explaining everything throughout the job. He showed me what had been installed, what would be installed, and despite a very tight boiler room, did an amazing job of getting everything done. The liner install looks way more secure, and the boiler room was cleaner than when they found it. It was raining heavy the night before - the guys even took their shoes off without my asking. Very professional, kind, and informative. True professionals."

"Anthony and his team stopped by to give me an estimate on removing a 6" flex pipe that had been installed in the chimney pipe to vent a wood stove. They climbed the roof, inspected the chimney and determined the flex pipe did not run the length of the two story chimney but was about 6-8' in length. They removed it and also took care of its disposal. And the cost was absurdly reasonable - dinner for two would have cost more. Can’t say enough good things about World Class Maintenance Inc. - these guys are the best!"

"We were selling our home. Home inspector told the buyers we need major chimney work including removing a heatilator fire box. Colonial Masonry guys came in and told me this was a very difficult process including cutting it out from the inside with a blow torch and risk of the entire chimney coming down. Advised me there was nothing wrong with the fire box...just need to be cleaned up, damper oiled so it opened easily and a new cap installed on top. The $3k project ended up costing $675. Some contractors would have just taken the bigger money and run. These guys only did what was needed and i appreciated that."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

If you plan to put a fire pit on a grassy area, be sure to put compacted paver sand down first to help level out the ground and add better heat protection. If you’re placing a fire pit on hardscaping, like a concrete patio, consider placing a fire pit mat down first. This can add more protection from the heat and also protect the look of your hardscaping if you choose to remove the fire pit in the future.

Yes, you need to leave your chimney damper open when burning a creosote log so that smoke and other debris doesn’t waft into your house as it’s burning. You’ll need to make sure your damper is fully open, even when the log continues to smoke, until it’s completely out and cold.

Yes, a faulty or broken light switch can be a serious fire hazard. Malfunctioning switches, often due to loose connections, exposed wiring, or overheating, can cause sparking or arcing. If you hear a crackling, popping, or hissing sound when you use the switch, it indicates live electricity arcing inside, which is a significant hazard that can ignite nearby flammable materials. If you suspect your light switch is faulty, turn off the power to that circuit at the breaker and contact a qualified electrician to remedy the issue.

You can relight a pilot light by yourself, but it’s not always the safest choice to do so. While the job is straightforward, a small mistake could end in a gas leak, fire, or explosion. That’s why we recommend everyone hire a pro for this job. Local furnace pros have lit dozens if not hundreds of pilot lights, and they’re well-versed and highly experienced in the proper safety protocols to keep you, your family, and your home safe while doing so.

You should have either an ABC or K-rated fire extinguisher in the kitchen. ABC fire extinguishers put out wood, trash, paper, plastic, and textile fires along with grease, oil, gas, kerosene, and electrical fires. A class K fire extinguisher is specifically rated for use in the kitchen and is designed to extinguish combustible cooking materials, including grease and fat.
