Small jobs welcome

"Jake is â top notchâ when it comes to tile installation! He did fantastic tile work on our entryway, ½ bath, laundry room, master bath floor and shower and second bath floor and tub surround (we canâ t wait for him to come back this spring to do our kitchen backsplash)! Jake would arrive as promised, worked with me on a daily basis, kept me posted on his progress and took care of absolutely everything! He completed the entire project in a timely fashion and stayed long hours until the project was finished. I sincerely appreciated the texts, phone calls and picture updates. He made sure that we were happy with every step of the install! My husband and I are beyond thrilled with the beauty of his craftsmanship. As any homeowner knows, it can be extremely difficult to find honest, hardworking people who are trustworthy and take obvious pride in their workmanship. If you are looking for someone who does 5 star tile work and provides outstanding customer serviceâ ¦hire Jake! â …â …â …â …â …"

"Very well. If you use a sink that is not purchased from Pacific Tile (stainless only), be sure it is available early on in the installation process, to ensure it can be installed."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, it would be best if you waterproofed your shower walls before tiling. The cement backing board behind the tile is not waterproof; it’s only water-resistant. On top of your tile backing board, be sure to use a waterproof shower membrane before you start installing your shower tiles.

It’s important to leave a gap in the corner when tiling to allow room for tile expansion. Leaving between one eighth of an inch to one tenth of an inch is enough space.

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.
