With 20+ years of professional experience, Rod's Heating & Cooling services (repairs, installations & equipment maintenance) is here to help you. My clientele are my best referrals. I treat every client with honesty, respect and professionalism the same way I'd like to be treated by the cable guy or car mechanic. I'm a owner-operated corporation fully insured and licensed. .

"I first met Rod Guerrero on December 9, 2024 following Angi project number 298266328 for an urgent service call to restart my steam boiler, at a cost of $175. I brought him back for a full boiler service in January 2025 for $900. But more importantly we discussed my project to replace my second floor existing A/C system by a Mitsubishi 3.5 ton heat pump (P-series air handler + condenser), solicited a bid from him and awarded him the project. Please see the contract attached. His bid for installation was $2,870 + smaller material and I added a $200 bonus. The contract includes a 1-year labor warranty. Rod completed the installation in late December 2024 and I put it in service in early January 2025 in heating mode. As it was working well (heat only) I paid him in full the remainder to the full $4,070 contract price. On May 23, 2025 I had Rod come for a small unrelated repair and to service my heat pumps towards switching to A/C. He checked my 2F unit and replaced the filter. On the evening of June 4th I used the A/C for the first time. Within an hour I heard a big pop in my attic, the attic was filled with dense white smoke and a strong smell and the unit had stopped working. I contacted Rod by text that evening. He came 2 days (June 6) later to investigate. He spent most of his time calling the Mitsubishi hotline, performing tests with a specialist on the call, and they eventually decided to replace 2 electronics board in the air handler (power board and control board) under warranty. He did not even notice the badly burned condensate pump on the left side of the unit - see picture. The condensate pump is a small shoe-box size electric pump that pumps out condensation water, and is used only in cooling mode. Rod and myself spent the next 2 months trying to get the replacement boards from Mitsubishi, and they finally became available in early August 2025. During this entire time I had very little A/C in my main bedrooms and used 2 window units instead. Rod came on August 5 to replace the board, and that’s when he finally noticed the badly burned condensate pump. He replaced it with a new one he had in his truck (a 110V model like the original one, which I believe was 4 years old and was working well before). Rod left soon after and let me run the A/C, but right way it was not working very well and I saw the new pump throw a big spark across in front of me. I immediately stopped the system and called Rod. He advised me to get an electrician to check and suddenly became very defensive. After telling me he would come again afterwards, he suddenly decided to stop working with me and dropped me off as a client (see his text). Soon after he refused to answer any communication from me and denied any responsibility. I had my electrician (Crest Electric) come in on August 18 (a bit delayed due to vacation). He diagnosed that the condensate pumps were hardwired into the old electric 220V line that was supplying the old Trane A/C air handler. He promptly adjusted the supply to the lower 110 voltage by switching one wire inside the breakers box. Both condensate pumps clearly specify 110V as input. The improper installation by Rod Guerrero into 220V is clearly the cause of this entire ordeal as he should have checked the voltage at time of installation, and moreover he did that mistake twice (re-installation of a replacement pump the exact same way). After downgrading the voltage, the A/C would not restart as the thermostat remained shut off. Rod did not respond to my requests to come again and I had to get a technician from another HVAC firm (County Comfort) come and check. He found out that the new condensate pump that Rod had installed was dead already, which created a safety shut off. He replaced that pump again and the entire system started working again. The system has now functioned properly for the last 2 weeks and I consider the problem resolved."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, HVAC zoning systems offer energy savings by allowing precise temperature control in different zones in your home. Rather than conditioning the whole house uniformly, these systems direct airflow where needed, preventing energy waste. Tailoring comfort to specific areas reduces energy consumption and lowers utility costs, making HVAC zoning an energy-efficient choice.

While you’ll pay more upfront for a brand-new HVAC unit, you can save money in the long run. Here’s how to save on your new HVAC system:

  • When purchasing a high-efficiency system, your energy bills will be lower in the future.

  • You may be eligible for special offers from your local energy company.

  • Depending on the system, you may be eligible for HVAC rebates and tax credits.

  • Choose to replace your air conditioning unit and furnace simultaneously to save on labor and installation costs.

With the proper maintenance and repairs, your HVAC can last 15 to 25 years. However, it depends on the type of equipment you have and the average lifespan of each, including:

Both evaporator coils and condenser coils are recyclable and contain valuable, sellable metals such as copper and aluminum. Not only is it more earth-friendly to take them to a local metal recycling facility, but you can also trade them in for cash. Also, once the coils are removed from the system, they won’t have any traces of refrigerant, so you won’t have to arrange for recycling Freon or R-410A unless you’re disposing of the entire AC system.

There are likely dozens of HVAC repair companies that service your area, and choosing the right one can be a tricky process. To hire the right HVAC technician, we recommend reaching out to local companies and ask the following questions:

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Do you have any third-party certifications?

  • Do you often work on my specific type of HVAC system?

  • Do you provide any warranty for your work?

  • Do you offer maintenance contracts for ongoing savings?

  • How many years of experience do you have?

By submitting this question, I acknowledge and agree that Angi may publicly display my name, city, state, and question on the website for professionals and others to see.
