Yes, spray foam is simple and effective for filling in holes in a door. Use low-expansion aerosol foam insulation to avoid creating too much pressure. Stuff some old newspaper around the inside perimeter of the hole to contain the spray foam, and then fill the void with foam. Once it dries, cut the foam flush with the door's surface, apply a few coats of spackle, sand it down, and paint.

Exposure to moisture leads to door jamb rot. Water softens the wood, leaving it susceptible to damage from even slight bumps. Over time, the excess moisture allows mold, mildew, and fungus to grow. These organisms feed on the wood, leaving behind a soft, splintering door jamb. The breakdown will continue if the wood isn’t repaired or replaced. Outdoor wood jambs are the most prone to rotting, but bathrooms and doorways in a humid climate can sustain this damage.

To remove the door plates (aka strike plates), use a screwdriver to remove the screws, then pull the plate away from the door jamb. Sometimes, the plate gets stuck. In this case, use a utility knife to gently cut around the plate. Carefully pull the plate back and forth to loosen it. Keep cutting around the plate and pulling until it’s free from the jamb.

While it's likely that a door handle will sag over time, there are some things you can do to maintain your handles and keep them from drooping. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication, is one place to start. Inspecting the door regularly, at least once or twice a year, to make sure that the connections aren't too tight is another good idea.
