Customers say: Quality work

"New to the area, I needed a hookup for an emergency generator and EV charger. Cole came to my home, took the time to discuss different options and answer questions, and provided a detailed, written estimate, all the same day as my initial inquiry. The project was completed within a few days. His price was very competitive and his work meticulous. A true professional."

Customers say: Quick response

"He made room in my electrical panel by installing double circuit-breakers to accommodate my home. Based on the work and how they presented themselves, I would recommend them. Very clean and professional, and I would hire them again in a heartbeat. Their price was reasonable, the work was great, and it was an overall pleasant experience."

"I inquired to Darren about a gen 3 tesla charger installed in my home that was not properly charging, and was overheating. He came, gave me a very informative rundown of what could cause this, different solutions etc. checked my panel, checked my charger, immediately knew and fixed the issue within 10 minutes of being here all while being educational,, pleasant, and professional. This man knows his stuff inside and out 100% and I would reccomend anyone who needs electrical work of any type to reach out to hire Darren and his team. He has earned a customer for life with me."

"Ryan is awesome! We needed to upgrade our garage electrical + smoke detectors & pool alarms @ our rental property in L.I. (Permit dept requirements) Ryan arrived right when he said he would & he stayed extra to help ADT solve a new thermostat issue. He texted us pics of each repair/replacement he did before he left the property. He gives good & honest advice, & is very easy to work with! Other electricians we contacted for this last minute project didnâ t even bother to get back to us! I highly recommend RCK Electric."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Homeowners can often access federal tax credits, such as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which covers a percentage of installation costs. Many states and utilities offer additional rebates, grants, or performance-based incentives. These programs can significantly lower your upfront investment. Check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) or contact your local energy office for current offers.

Potential benefits of using a natural gas generator include reducing your carbon footprint, lower likelihood of carbon monoxide exposure, budget-friendly operating costs, and low-maintenance, continuous fuel supply. Some possible drawbacks, though, include higher initial installation costs, dependency on a natural gas supply, and installation complexity. Keep in mind that pros and cons will vary based on the type and brand of natural gas generator.

In some situations, yes. Never try to put biofuel into any home generator without checking the specifics first. If a generator has the ability to run on diesel, it can also run pure biofuel (the clear kind made from seed oils, for example). But if you are using biofuel made from animal fats or vegetable oils, the generator will need significant modifications before it can handle a sludgier type of biofuel.
