"After having my existing floors refinished very poorly by another company, I knew I would not be using them to sand and stain brand new unfinished hardwood that I had installed in the rest of my house. I had called Sal based on a recommendation from a contractor. He came to my house the same day and gave me a very reasonable estimate shortly after he left. He was very responsive and easily reachable for any questions I had before and during the work. His crew was neat, effective and did a beautiful job on my new floors. My only regret is not calling Sal sooner and hiring him for the first job. I would highly recommend him and his company and I plan on using them to redo the terrible job that was done on my other floors."

"PERFECTLY! Scott took the time we needed to explain our options, the pros and cons, cost etc... He gave us a very fair price, his crew did a great job. They were very professional yet still friendly each time we used them. They went over and above in a couple of instances such as cutting and leaving a peice of baseboard they could not install because we were behind schedule getting our wall up... we couldn't believe they were able to "guess" the exact length we would need. Such a help! And they cleaned up everything when done. I'm not stating cost below because this was 3 different jobs."

"Mike and his crew were great. We needed to install carpeting in our coop apartment. The came in for an estimate, explained the entire process and gave us a fair price. They were able to start almost right away, and the whole process went so smoothly! They were on time, courteous and professional. The final result exceeded our expectations. We would definitely recommend empire carpet to our friends."

"I closed on a house that had wall-to-wall carpet in most of the rooms a week before going on vacation. I contacted Five Star and Ricardo responded right away, we scheduled for him to come see the job that needed to be done (he was very punctual), and did the work while I was away and the house was still empty. I had 2 other estimates and his price was the most reasonable. Since the house was empty and some of the work had to be done at night there were some minor issues such as a few staples (literally about 5) that were not fully removed and a spot that was missed due to lack of adequate lighting. Ricardo showed up to take care of those issues himself. Ricardo was alway courteous and professional."

"Great job cleaning the carpeting. Everything nice and fresh. Ricardo worked quickly and neatly. He even gave a couple of rugs a quick cleaning as he moved his equipment out. He also gave a me a quote on cleaning my sofa which I will likely have him back to do in a few months."

"They were scheduled to come on Friday before Memorial Weekend. They didn't come and I called Peter (the owner) at 4pm. He was very concerned and apologetic. He promised to look into it immediately. He called me and emailed back advising that he had failed to ensure my carpets got on the truck that day and stressed that it was his fault and not his installer's, Olmer. He said they could not come on Satursday but they could come on Sunday or on Wednesday. Due to my schedule they came on Sunday (incredible!) and were professional and tidy, double-checking all measurements, carefully moved all my furniture (my husband helped with the pool table), vacumned, installed new pad rather than leaving the old, removed all prior material and put everything back in its place more accurately than my husband could have done!!  Superb service! Note that I have used Cornell (including Peter's father before him) for an office, stairs and a hallway (twice), a large basement (twice) and never had any scheduling problems -- I present this example only because I think it says a lot when people handle a problem well!

"Overall Premier Flooring did an exceptional job. I had been recommended by a friend and was a little skeptical at first, but Greg and Mike did an incredible job of making me feel comfortable and answering any questions I had quickly, as well as being informative. The job was perfect, better than expected and their workers were really polite!"

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

Patching your carpet in damaged areas or using an industry-grade cleaner on urine spots can help remove stains and scents from your carpet. If odors linger, leave baking soda on the area overnight (dry), then vacuum it up in the morning.

Most people realize it is time to replace the padding when the carpet loses springiness or feels thin and unsupportive. Other telltale signs are lumps or dips in the carpet that could look unattractive or cause tripping hazards. Similarly, if your carpet is making a crinkly sound or starting to wear out prematurely, you might need to replace your padding.

The best way to fix carpet matting is to start by vacuuming thoroughly in multiple directions to lift the flattened fibers. For more stubborn spots, apply moisture with an ice cube or steam, then fluff the carpet using a spoon, comb, or carpet brush. A blow dryer or warm iron over a damp towel can also help restore the carpet’s texture. For deep or widespread matting, a professional cleaning is your best bet to fluff your carpet back up to its former glory.

When deciding whether to repair or replace your carpet, consider its age, the extent of the damage, and its location. It's often best to replace the entire carpet if the damage is extensive, such as large sections needing replacement, or if it's caused by water, which can lead to mold problems. Similarly, if your carpet is nearing a decade old, replacement is likely the more logical choice. On the other hand, consider repairing your carpet if the damage is localized to one spot, like minor rips or snags, the carpet is still relatively new, or the damage is in a low-traffic area of your home.

You may be able to use super glue in a pinch to fix your carpet, but expect the repair to last only a short time. Super glue isn't designed for carpet, so over time, it'll break down, and the carpet piece will move out of place. For the best results, go to the store and grab a bottle of carpet seam glue.
