"Olvin and his crew were very hard working. They did an excellent job. Olvin himself is an amazing tile setter and we are very happy with the finished job. I would recommend Owen to anybody looking for a ceramic tile job."

"They replaced my bathtub, installed a new vanity, put in new lights and painted a wall cabinet. Not only were they punctual, but very polite and reasonable. I highly recommend them and will use them in the future."

"Andy Q and his crew were absolutely flawless in planning, execution and finishing up the smallest details in this complex project. He and his crew were artisans, making my small bathroom look like a million bucks! They went above and beyond what he had agreed to do and his workman were the hardest working I've ever seen. The original demolition was to take 2 days and took 1 day with the second day for hauling everything from this ancient bath with layers of tiles and floors. His bid was the lowest of Manhattan contractors, including Lowes, who was dying to offer free financing, but with no practical advice. Andy knew what I could realistically do and what was just not possible in my tiny bathroom. One contractor wanted $15K just for demolition of my 30 square foot bathroom! Even before we began and all during the project, if I texted Andy, he would call within minutes and was always available to help with advice and reassurance. The Maintenance Company representatives for my co-op, on the other hand, were horrible, with unreasonable delays in approving my project, which delayed our starting time considerably. But that is over since my bath is 95% finished !! The new custom shower doors from Paradise Glass will be installed Wednesday and I will follow up with another review. THANK YOU ANDY!!!! XXOO I have a real estate side business in Texas and have always relied on Angie's List for the best service providers for my rental properties, and have never been disappointed. But I have never been this happy, since it is MYAPARTMENT this time!! :-) me at lin"

"We met several contractors before getting our kitchen remodeled. We ended up going with Riji Home Improvements because we really wanted someone to walk us through our design choices and options. Riji Home Improvements designed and built our IKEA kitchen and the experience was perfect from start to finish. Pedro and Luis were efficient, responsive, and suggested great ideas we would never have thought of ourselves. Their flexibility and speed made the process as painless as possible. Our downstairs neighbor also used Riji Home Improvements. We both love our kitchens! Gorgeous work, no fuss/no muss, and right on time. I highly recommend Pedro and Luis."

Customers say: Quick response

"I hired Cami Inc. to work on several plumbing issues in my apartment including reattaching my kitchen faucet, repairing a damaged drain assembly and reattaching the water line to my refrigerator’s ice maker. I also had Endri take a look at my bathroom, which had its own drainage issues, and he cleaned out a clogged pipe there. From the very first communication to the job’s completion, I found Endri to be a true professional. He provided answers to the problems and explanationed the solutions employed. He was as on time, easy to communicate with, and his pricing was reasonable. Best of all, he stands by his work. I’ll definitely be keeping Cami Inc. in mind for future plumbing and other maintenance/home improvement projects."

"I had two separate bathroom jobs done by Kazi and Rahat construction: one bathroom needed a wall rebuilt and retiled (after plumbing work), a new vanity installed and a bathtub reglazed; the other bathroom was a gut renovation. The first project (the 'easy' one): the wall was rebuilt and retiled beautifully: penny tiles had to be replaced, and the job was immaculate: the tiles were laid so nicely that they served to highlight how poorly the original tiles had been installed. I badly needed a new bathtub, but I loved the floor tiles in the bathroom and could not find matching replacement tiles anywhere: Kazi suggested a reglaze on the existing tub, which would allow me to keep my floor, and the tub now looks even cleaner and shinier than new. Vanity was installed even after some tricky plumbing requirements were dealt with - a new coat of paint was also applied, and the bathroom looks amazing. The second bathroom was a bigger project: absolutely everything was removed, a new floor needed to be made since the existing one was slanted, insulation was done and the walls and door were reframed. Waterproof walls were added around the shower along with a new window. The the tiling began - I chose what turned out to be the tiniest tiles for the shower wall, and again, the installation was just about perfect: there are no lines out of whack or gaps in the tiles. The rest of the room was done in subway tiles, which also were laid perfectly. The floor was tiled, a new vanity was installed, along with a medicine cabinet set into the wall and two new lights, a shelf, towel rack and TP holder. Ceiling and walls were painted as well - the final project exceeded even my expectations, and I could not be happier with the end results. Kazi's team were always on time, respectful and pleasant (they dealt well with my older stubborn dog and I managed to work from home with little to no interruption, even when the work being done was on the same floor as my office!). Andres, the man who did all the work in both bathrooms, is highly skilled and a truly patient worker, his tile work is outstanding (I did not have easy tiles to install!). Kazi was on site at least twice a day and was always reachable by phone or text. His team was willing to install all materials I had chosen and offered really good feedback and advice throughout the duration of both projects. I definitely recommend Kazi and Rahat Construction and will definitely be using them again for my next project."

"This is an honest review to help both future customers and Mr. Nunez. Overall the work done did come out pretty ok. We wished Mr. Nunez communicated better in the beginning as to how the project will work and what to expect and when certain things would need to be done. Since this is his profession, we figured he would know how to guide the customers properly so that the work would be done smoothly and in a timely manner. There were some pros and cons. After contacting Mr. Nunez and agreeing to the work, he said he would draw up a contract and and email it to me. I said ok, but I also expected him to swing by and with pen and pad to go over exactly what we wanted in our new bath and how we wanted it to look. This never happened, he mainly drew up a contract based on what was briefly spoken for 5 to 10 mins when he came to take a look at the issue which was the leak in the kitchen, then I showed him the bath and asked for a estimate on a remodel. Once the work started, the workers were very polite and took care to spread paper where they were working and walking and cleaned up after they were done. After the first couple of days, we noticed not much attention was being given to clean up at the end of the work day. The main guy doing the job after the demo was done, was working well, but made his own schedule on certain days which prolonged the work and was also due to him running out of materials (tiles...etc) and had to wait. Since there was no major communication in the beginning, we had no idea when we had to have the the bath accessories (toilet, vanity, shower doors, pantry) by for them to install. When we decided to ask, that is when we found out Mr Nunez will not be going with us to pick out these items, at least to tell us what will fit or not fit. We were not even given proper measurements so that we can order correct items that would fit. We had to scramble quickly online to order stuff from Home Depot and amazon, and cancel certain orders then reorder again etc, all because we were not given correct measurements and was not told when we should have the items by for them to be installed. We had to inquire for this info. Because of this, the project was delayed, now we had to wait for items to be delivered and had to pick up items from Home Depot after it was delivered there. After the main work was done, we told them we will wait till we have all the items and then call them to install them. After we started to inquire and express our concerns about the communication, Mr. Nunez, seemed to acknowledge it a little because he was showing more attention. He would always respond to our concerns and would answer all of our calls and said to call him anytime. He was very receptive that way and took care of all other issues. All in all the project was to last 2 weeks but ended up lasting almost 4 weeks because of the lack of proper communication. This is a definite learning experience for us. Now we know what we need to do from the beginning to make sure things run a bit more smoothly. We also hope Mr Nunez will take away some tips from this project that will help him for future projects. Although there were some hiccups, Mr. Nunez did keep working with us until the end and did make sure we were satisfied. Yes, we would give Mr. Nunez a try again in the future but will also apply what we have learned."

Small jobs welcome

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We couldn’t be happier with the work Manuel did on our house. He covered everything the renovation required- tile work, plastering, plumbing, electric, carpentry. The tile work is absolutely flawless, the baseboards were installed with great attention to detail, and the plastering on the ceilings came out smooth and professional. Everything was done with care, precision, and a clear pride in craftsmanship. He was reliable, punctual, and kept the work area clean throughout the project. Communication was excellent, and he made sure everything was done exactly the way we wanted. The house looks completely transformed, and the quality of work exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a skilled, trustworthy handyman. We will definitely be using him again for future projects!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

To make a small bathroom look bigger, choose light-colored tiles in a medium- to large-format size. Lighter colors like white, cream, or light gray help open up a room, making it feel larger and more airy. While it may seem counterintuitive, small tiles can actually make a bathroom look smaller because the increased number of grout lines creates a busy pattern that visually shrinks the space. Instead, opt for medium- or large-format tiles for a more seamless, expansive appearance. For the best effect, pair your tiles with a matching or similarly colored grout to create a continuous surface that enhances the illusion of a larger area. Avoid dark colors, heavy patterns, and contrasting grout, as these can make the space feel more confined.

To make a bathroom look bigger, choose light-colored, medium- to large-format tiles. Light colors such as white, cream, or light gray make a space feel more open, while dark colors, busy patterns, and small tiles can make a bathroom feel smaller. It may seem counterintuitive, but small tiles can shrink a room visually due to the increased number of grout lines. Using medium- to large-format tiles creates a more seamless look. For the best effect, pair your light-colored tiles with a matching or similarly colored grout. This minimizes the grid-like pattern and gives the floor and walls a more continuous, uninterrupted appearance, helping the room feel significantly larger.

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.

The grout shade you choose comes down to personal taste and preference. A darker grout will give you a more dramatic and noticeable contrast with the tile around it; however, lighter grout helps create a more uniform look when blending the colors together. Additionally, a darker grout combined with a patterned tile could be overwhelming to the eye, while lighter grout makes the pattern stand out as the main focus.

Yes, you can use paint if you want to refresh your tile countertops. However, you must be mindful of the type of paint you use. Look for options explicitly created for tile that are also waterproof and durable. Over time, the paint will chip, so this is not considered a long-term solution for busy kitchens.
