"Entoni showed up early, ready to work! He worked efficiently and carefully. I asked for a patch on tiles that needed to be replaced. He communicated with me every step of the way to ensure I would have a job that I loved. Unfortunately, my original tiles are discontinued, so we talked about sizes that would work best. Entoni did an excellent job on the patch and gave me a reasonable price. Entoni communicates with you to make sure that he job he does is to your satisfaction. I would recommend him for any tiling project and will use him again for any future work I need done."

"After having my existing floors refinished very poorly by another company, I knew I would not be using them to sand and stain brand new unfinished hardwood that I had installed in the rest of my house. I had called Sal based on a recommendation from a contractor. He came to my house the same day and gave me a very reasonable estimate shortly after he left. He was very responsive and easily reachable for any questions I had before and during the work. His crew was neat, effective and did a beautiful job on my new floors. My only regret is not calling Sal sooner and hiring him for the first job. I would highly recommend him and his company and I plan on using them to redo the terrible job that was done on my other floors."

"The installation of the appliances was particularly challenging in our 1973 house, because Victor was presented with several unanticipated challenges. He rose to the occasion and solved every challenge beautifully."

"My thanks to all of the people who already wrote reviews of Marble Effects. Their good reviews made me consider, and then hire Marble Effects. It was a good choice. I donâ t write quick and dirty reviews. I try to anticipate what I as a reader would really like/need to know and I try to answer those questions/issues. We needed three tiling issues: A stall shower in a small bathroom had to be totally removed/demolished and a new one installed. There was a leak in the tile on the wall with the plumbing fixtures of a tub/shower in a hall bathroom that needed to be dealt with. The master bathroom stall shower needed to be regrouted, and the seams recaulked. When we began, we got proposals from a couple of tile installers, one of whom had been recommended by our long time plumber, who we trust implicitly. His proposal was professional, but he wanted to make a mountain out of a molehill. The work he wanted to do was more than any other proposer. And he absolutely refused to give us a proposal that included the cost of the tile, and refused to even tell us the square footage of the tile needed until and unless he was awarded the contract. There was no way to get to a bottom line cost without understanding the cost of the tile. Despite being recommended by our plumber, we did not use him. Thatâ s when I went to Home Advisor. Home Advisor provided the names of several tile installers that had good reviews. Two of the three proposals were pretty unprofessional; to me they seemed as if they could have been prepared on a cocktail napkin. And they only saw one way to do the job. No inventiveness at all. We didnâ t use them. The third proposal was from Marble Effects. Mat came. He was inventive, seeking to minimize the cost. Nice. He fully explained the options we had, and explained the plusses and minuses of each. He clearly understood what we wanted, and what we needed. His proposal was truly professional. It specified his insurance coverage and his license number. It was clear. It was complete. We talked about it and he made a few adjustments. We chose Marble Effects. And weâ re glad we did. The work was completed today. Everything was nicely, carefully, and professionally done. It took a bit longer to complete than had originally proposed, but thatâ s OK because there was no rushing, nothing slapdash about everything Mat â and his father Hiram â did. Everything they did, they did carefully. They were always neat. They always took care to protect our property. They did it right. They explained what they were doing. They explained why they were doing it. They explained why, from time to time, the work had to pause to permit something to set and/or cure. Perfection -- itâ s clear from their attitudes and actions â is of primary importance to them. Nice. Multiple times during the course of the project Mat asked us if everything was OK; if there were any problems we had with anything Mat wanted to take care of it. (When was the last time any contractor did that? Never, in my lifetime.) Nice. And the price quoted in the beginning was the price I paid at the end. No extras. No additions. Nice."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Natural stone floors, especially pebble-style tiling, are one of the least slippery options for a shower floor. Natural stone has a texture to reduce slickness, and pebble-shaped tiles add more visual and textural contrast while reducing slippage. Vinyl tiles are also designed with anti-slip texture for added safety. If you have a slippery tile, be sure to add a grippy shower mat to reduce the risk of falls.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.

Using caulk is one of the simplest and most recommended methods to finish glass tile edges. It creates an elegant seam between the glass tile and the adjacent area, along with a waterproof seal. With this method, you want to use a caulk color that matches the grout and, along with the grout, compliments the tile. Make sure the caulk line is smooth and even. Alternatively, you can use a bullnose or tile trimming to edge, however, that will also require caulk to seal.

The tile spacing you should use will depend on the tile and where you’re installing it. Choosing the right tile spacers to maintain a consistent gap between your tiles is tricky. Generally, tile spacing shouldn’t be less than 2 millimeters on walls and 3 millimeters on floors because of stress relief requirements. Getting it wrong can result in uneven tiles and early repairs.

Yes, even if you’re being careful, removing tile can damage your drywall to some degree. However, you can minimize the damage done to it by eliminating a majority of the grout and taking your time prying each tile off. Also, it's worth noting that you might have more drywall damages to deal with if your tile is set into the mortar.
